 Didn't see that one. Shame for Liverpool, but players rested, more youngsters blooded and Joe Cole played.

I fancy them away against Chelsea at the weekend.

I can see why Sterling is in the England squad, but I'd prefer to see him getting a week off. He might start being in danger of being overplayed if he goes thru to Xmas.

 Didn't get to see the game due to a crappy 5pm kick off. Shame we couldn't get a point as that would have kept us top. Still a good chance being 2nd in the group but we have to get something in the next group game before our final game at home against Young Boys.

Onto Chelsea this Sunday, we've had a good record lately against them in the league, I think both sides will score as both defences aren't great. The team have had a weeks rest so no excuse with being too tired.

3 wins out of the last four at the bridge but without Lucas anchoring the midfield this time i'm worried about who'll pick up Chelsea's trio of playmakers. Their weakness is clearly on the wings with Hazard and Mata not providing enough cover, Assaidi may be a decent option and hopefully Johnson plays as I can see him doing some damage there.

Should be an interesting game whatever the outcome.

 Oh dear Carragher is playing. It's in a 5 man defence so hopefully the 4 others will help it out, not sure why he's playing instead of Coates.

Seems like Rodgers is trying to counter Chelsea's attacking quartet and use the pace and mobility of Suarez and Sterling to attack the dodgy Chelsea defence.

 I've been looking forward to this game all week, so I hope it lives up to the hype in my head.

A back 5 makes lots of sense to me. I think Liverpool's best defense will be offense, so they have to try to move the ball very quickly up to Suarez for him to try to exploit any lax defending from Chelsea (who are without the pace of Luis). Basically that means Enrique and Johnson bombing on. We know that cover for the full backs at Chelsea can be poor so this should be interesting.

Liverpool will need a bit of luck because there will be chances for Chelsea.

EDIT: As expected, it is a 5 man midfield really with Enrique and Johnson nearer the halfway line than anywhere else. I like the plan. Am I the only one who's not been that impressed by Sahin since he came on loan (bearing in mind I think they would have bought another striker if they'd not spent a packet on the loan move).

 I don't think this formation is working. Our full backs are having to play quite high up to help the attack but it's leaving gaps down the flanks which Chelsea are hitting on the counter. When we get the ball forward we can't find a way through the defensive mids and defenders.

 I'm not sure the formation is at fault. I think you are moving the ball forwards and have had more possession. The alternative as I see it is to try to suck Chelsea in and hit on the break. I think that is far too dangerous against Chelsea's attacking options. And don't forget that as it is you might give Chelsea opportunities, but quite a few of these will fall to Torres, so that's not a problem

I agree that there has been little end product, but that is not so much the fault of the formation as the players. Sahin still not done anything for me.

 The players are at fault I agree but the formation is leaving us really susceptible to counter attacks which is how Chelsea have done all their attacking. Our players are also being way too ponderous on the ball when we get in the final third. It's as if they get scared.

I just think the 2 or 3 players behind Suarez (Sahin, Gerrard in particular) have been really poor in this game.

I'll be honest though, I don't see where the Liverpool goal is coming from.

EDIT: In the last 5 minutes, rubbish shot from Gerrard, terrible pass in the box and kicks out at his man to get a booking. Really, really poor performance from Stevie G today imo.

I know Chelsea will attack us whatever, but we need more support for our full backs to stop Hazard/Mata/Oscar. The 3 at the back should ideally spread themselves to fill the gaps but that isn't happening either.

After the goal we've been better though.

Totally agree, Gerrard, Allen and Sahin have been useless. Can't wait to have Lucas back.

I so nearly added unless they get a set piece too

Can see them scoring now though. Much more of a threat and direct running at players since Suso came on. Just wish that Johnson would have a few more runs at Bertrand who's not a strong defender imo.

 Suso was much better than Sahin and as soon as Johnson moved to LB with Enrique ahead of him we were more dangerous and Chelsea's attackers were nullified more effectively.

 Interesting that Rodgers didn't think Liverpool pressed enough in the first half.

I can see progress in the style that Liverpool are playing. But I'm still to be convinced that this will equate to progress in results and league position. All the teams above Liverpool also have a defined style that they have built teams around and its going to be a very long climb up that ladder.

Pleased with the last quarter of the game yesterday. But its so apparent that we need some new players in.

Allen was exposed yesterday as Sahin couldn't get into the game.

Suso is a central player who would thrive if continued under that role, he and Sterling don't look out place against Chelsea. Wondering when we will see Assaidi in the frame.

Oh... was Reina injured or is it a sign that he may be moved on in January?

I'm really surprised Assaidi hasn't been given a go in the league. In the Europa League he's looked tricky and direct.

 So good result yesterday. Good performance + clean sheet + a few goals. It's exactly what we should be doing given the possession we have. Suarez was once again excellent and Enrique is developing into a very useful attacking player. He is very strong, has pace and never seems to give up. His final ball is sometimes lacking but he drives up the pitch and is more direct than a lot of our players. We're 7 matches unbeaten in the league too which is a good basis for moving up the table. If we can get 8 out of the next 12 points (away to Swansea, Spurs, West Ham, home to Soton) then I'll pleased and it should see us cemented in the top half. A lot of people would say we should be beating Swansea, West Ham and Soton but given our results over the last 2 years I'm not getting carried away.

 Good win Saturday finally beat the bogey team. Made tough work of it first half but the early goal in the 2nd half really helped and after the 2nd went in we really relaxed and knock the ball about.
Was in Block 305 of the Kop on Saturday and it was great, didn't stop singing from the kick off until full time. Great Atmosphere at the back of the stand.

 2 stunning goals from YB and we were monumentally naive after going ahead the second time, but have we played better going forward in recent times? I know YB aren't Man Utd blah blah but still...twas nice to see. Encouraging signs for sure

 Henderson and Downing have started for us. I can understand Henderson, he'll be there to break up Swansea's passing and counter attacks and generally be a nuisance which he can do better than Sahin.

Given Enrique's recent form he has to play further forward so Downing seems to be the only other LB option. Which I'm guessing is because Wisdom is injured as he's not even on the bench.

 Yep.

He tries to be too clever/spectacular a lot of the time and doesn't play it simply. And it's really annoyed me how Parry has said a couple of times 'unusual for Gerrard to do that' when he's lost the ball. It happens every game!
