ORIGINAL: Toby Monroe I'm starting to think he's abit of a fraud. I don't understand. Care to elaborate on this? Ok. I don't buy into the idea that there is a such a thing as the Brendan Rodgers' Way, or a Brendan Rodgers' type player. It's all a bit of a nonsense. Obviously he has a 'way' but it's not exclusive to him. When people, pundits/press/fans, blab on about the Brendan Rodgers' way/style/philosophy, it's as though they're trying to suggest he's some kind of tactical visionary who's reinvented the footballing wheel. Pass and move? Isn't that the Liverpool groove? At Swansea wasn't he just building on the foundations laid prior by the previous incumbents? So I don't believe the hype. The problem is, I think he does. He seems a little bit pretentious. The measured way in with he gives press conference answers is an attempt to impress upon us that he's a man who's thoughtful, and methodical in his approach, but his utterances are just same guff that all managers say. His flip flopping over Carroll, one week he's talking about how he may leave, the next he's saying he'd be mad let him go, or it would take something 'massive' to pry him from the club, suggests to me that, like many who operate under a pretense, fact and fiction are easily interchangeable. There is of course the possibility that behind the scenes the situation with regards to Carroll changed (and he's left, so it obviously did) but I'm not blessed with that degree intimacy so can only judge on the info that's made public. And as I said previously he seemed insincere on that telly prog. Also looking at the quotes F Skywalker's posted, pretentious might be an understatement. I'm not saying he's a bad manager, but if he does believe the hype, and takes a dogmatic approach to tactics, it's tippy tappy all the way, then I rather suspect that the term 'Plan B' might get mentioned a lot in Liverpool's post match analyses.
