I didn't see the game at all but looking at that it looks like Evans should've been sent off, Shelvey's looks like a yellow... but I've only seen one angle.

Shelvey's was the worse of the two, simply because he was higher up and his foot went round the ball (not over it as some people are claiming). But if he had to go then so did Evans. Both had studs up and weren't in control.

Knew Shelvey was gonna get sent off sooner or later and I was hoping he'd learn a lesson from this but his comments after the game about never pulling out of a tackle appear to suggest otherwise...

Same shit different day in terms of the game, good in possesion, dominated for long periods but left with nothing. Out of the 5 games we've played, we've only played badly against Arsenal and 2nd half v West Brom which is a positive but alas the big problem of not turning our dominance into points remains for now.

Still we have to remember that Liverpool finished 8th last season and it's not as if Rodgers has come in and had 80M to spend on improving the squad, he's actually had more of a clear out and brought several young players into the first team whilst starting to implement his own philosophy and ideas. So he will need time and can't be effectively judged over a 5 game period that has included games against three of the top 4. However this will of course not stop us being the laughing stock of the league for a while, until we go on a decent run of form and the wise folk of twitter then proclaim us as title contenders.

Nobody should be judged after 5 games whether they had to rebuild or not.

Having a footballing philosophy is great. But Rogers has to have a short term as well as long term plan. Having Carroll available for the last 10 minutes I think could have changed that outcome. When Liverpool went behind (though they didn't deserve to) I just couldn't see how they'd get back in that game again.

I caught a bit of that fly on the wall Liverpool show, and whilst it was nice to see that Rogers is capable of cracking a smile I did not buy a lot of stuff that he said. His thoughts on Carroll, which uttered as he looked wistfully into the middle distance, seemed insincere, as did his proclamation that he views all the players his children.

I'm starting to think he's abit of a fraud. You were decent against utd though.

You weren't going to win the league or realistically make the top four this year so the start you've had hasn't actually damaged your season that badly. The performance against Man U was really excellent and you will definately start to move up the table. I have a feeling Rodgers will come good

In the future that match will go down in history as Black Sunday or some other waggish name. Lost the match, man sent off and suspended for 3 games and three players injured, at least one of them for the entire season most likely.

I don't buy into the idea that there is a such a thing as the Brendan Rodgers' Way, or a Brendan Rodgers' type player. It's all a bit of a nonsense. So I don't believe the hype. The problem is, I think he does. He seems a little bit pretentious. His flip flopping over Carroll, one week he's talking about how he may leave, the next he's saying he'd be mad let him go, or it would take something 'massive' to pry him from the club, suggests to me that, like many who operate under a pretense, fact and fiction are easily interchangeable.

There is of course the possibility that behind the scenes the situation with regards to Carroll changed (and he's left, so it obviously did) but I'm not blessed with that degree intimacy so can only judge on the info that's made public.

And as I said previously he seemed insincere on that telly prog. Also looking at the quotes F Skywalker's posted, pretentious might be an understatement. I'm not saying he's a bad manager, but if he does believe the hype, and takes a dogmatic approach to tactics, it's tippy tappy all the way, then I rather suspect that the term 'Plan B' might get mentioned a lot in Liverpool's post match analyses.

Before he came in they reverted back to a more defensive 4-4-2 under Paulo Sousa and despite finishing in 7th they struggled for goals. Rodgers helped improve the goal tally from 40 to 69 (a 58% increase) in his first season and adapted very well last year, focusing on recycling possesion in deeper areas to make them tighter at the back and moving to a more attacking 4-2-3-1 when they brought in Sigurdsson in January.

His style is clearly modelled on Barcelona, he likes to set his team up in a 4-1-2-3 and move the ball around constantly before waiting for the right time to attack. I've read online that this formation is the most effective for possesion friendly sides because it has more passing triangles all over the pitch and thus is easier to retain the ball. The idea is that the team is structured to recycle possesion and transition more effectively when attacking. I've been impressed with his ideas so far, certainly an improvement over Dalglish who looked tactically inept (especially during matches) at times last season.

I'm not going to go too crazy because it's the League Cup and West Brom rested a few players too. But very encouraging overall and Yesil and Assaidi look like they could be handfuls. Robinson looks a solid full back and Wisdom could be a beast. The technique of some of the lads is pretty incredible and it's quite exciting considering we've lacked a real technical team for a long time.

I've said it before but a lot of credit needs to go to Benitez and hopefully, aside from the CL win, he'll be remembered for starting a great youth system. Not only from changing scouting but also the philosophy of technical and pressing football. Now we have youngsters who fit right into Rodgers' system.

What's that 11 in two matches - I thought this was on the cards because Liverpool have actually been playing pretty well. I knew Rodgers would come good at some point but Liverpool are still better off with Carroll in the squad.

They played fantastically yesterday, with almost everything they did coming off. Suarez, when he plays like that can almost be unstoppable - its just not often enough he does it, though his goal-scoring record has improved latterly (excluding the hat-trick). Been hearing a lot about Suso and he does look a heck of a player in the making. If they can get a few quality additions in January then the future is looking a lot brighter.

Disappointing result but once again a game we dominated. We really should have won and I'm not sure there's more Rodgers could have done considering it was the players missing the chances and hitting the woodwork. I'd be shocked if Rodgers is gone by Christmas and to be honest if you want him out then you're being a bit silly.

I really hope not. I don't think changing managers every 6 months is going to progress Liverpool at all. The owners have picked their man, I hope they stick with him now. Having not seen today's game I can't really comment, but I do feel that Liverpool's results are heavily dependent on how up for it Suarez is. I think even if they'd kept Bellamy they'd have another option for the last few minutes of a game. So it will be January before a new striker can be brought in, which will seem like a long time.

I don't really think Rodgers can truly be judged until Christmas next season when he'll have had more time to shape the team to his way of playing.

We dominate a lot of matches but it's pretty pointless if the players excluding the youngsters are not good enough to put the ball into the back of the net.

I said it from the start of the season Rodgers won't make it into the New Year.

But as Rinc says, there's not so much Rodgers can do about the finishing on the pitch.

He can presumably work in it in training, but its still only a couple of months he's had with the players. He could have not got rid of Carroll, but he just didn't fancy him at all and its clear that the mess up of not replacing him wasn't solely at Rodgers' door.

As I said before, he'll bring someone in in Jan that will give Liverpool more options up front. Until then its hard to judge him and I really don't see what removing him would do for the team.
