It doesn't matter where the gun barrel sequence is in a Bond movie

It should be in the middle of the film or thrown in sporadically.
It could become a event in itself. The random James Bond-Gun Barrel scene.

They should just put into his introduction "The name's Bond, [cut to gun barrel scene, cut back to movie] James Bond"

I think Bond fanboys are worse than Trek fanboys. At least the Trekkies had the good grace to acknowledge their franchise needed rebooted.

Especially since Skyfall has the most Moore Bondesque sequence imaginable in that bit in Macua.

I struggle to come up with films I'm excited for. It certainly isn't The Hobbit (huge LotR fan btw).

2012:

Much Ado About Nothing - Written by the greatest writer ever (no, not him). Directed by a genius.
Into Your Eyes - Written by the greatest writer ever.

2013:

Gravity - It's set in space, take my money.
12 Years a Slave - Looks interesting.
Only God Forgives - Drive 2?
Star Trek Into Darkness. - Speaks for itself.

2014:

Noah - Best director in the world returns.

All I remember about Skyline is that it seemed like two hours of people going to and from an apartment. Then it goes fucking batshitapeshit crazy as the credits roll.

Still better than Battle LA mind. That had no bashitapeshit craziness.

Hey, I distinctly remember being against a Kirk/Spock early years film when it was announced, but then I realised I was wrong and it's what the franchise needed....

And as a Trek/Wars/Bond/Tolkein/Marvel/DC/GoT/Indy fanboy, I often have arguments with myself about which I (should) like better... and then tell myself I'm wrong... before swearing loudly at myself. Man, it's not easy being intolerant...

That's just wrong. All five of his films have been nothing short of 4/5 stars imo:

Black Swan
The Wrestler
The Fountain
Requiem for a Dream
Pi

Who else has a track record like that?

PTA definitely has a similar career trajectory in a way I suppose, and I think I may just prefer his films to Aronofsky's, but not by much. And what about Terrence Malick?

Days of Heaven
Badlands

The only decent thing about Requiem for a Dream was Jennifer Connelly and Black Swan was ok have not seen the others as they don't interest me however Noah does.

There is nothing wrong with War Horse and even Indy 4 and Hook are not as bad as people make out. Have not seen The Terminal but I will agree that 1941 and Always are not great. And I will add ET can't stand it.

I don't think it's fair to judge Hard Eight like that, as we've only ever seen the truncated version. Personally I think it's great, but his only non-masterpiece. I hear the 160 minute cut is more in keeping with the later films too.

I'd agree with Malick too, and throw Wes Anderson's name in to the ring too. As great as those guys are though, Aronofsky included, I don't think any of them have made a film quite as good as There Will Be Blood or The Master.

Good call. Wes Anderson is probably my favourite director working today. I've yet to see The Master but I'd personally rate everything Wes Anderson's done apart from Bottle Rocket and The Darjeeling Limited higher than There Will Be Blood (which I do really like). I'd also rate P.T.'s own Boogie Nights and Punch Drunk Love ahead of it as well to be honest.
