There's no stopping in the Unpopular Opinion thread, I'm afraid.

I've seen both versions, and I prefer the Coen's. Guiness is better than Hanks, yes, but the old lady in the remake is far more warming than the lady in the original. I was happy for Guinness and co to kill the fuck out of her.

I remember seeing the remake and only laughing once and that was it.The Cohen's do such brilliant original work of their own I was a little perplexed when I saw their names attached to this. It really is a misfire, a rare thing for the Cohen's. I think they knew they probably couldn't top it, it was more of a nod to the Ealing Classics

and The Big Lebowski?

No.

But the '...you brought your bitch to the Waffle House?!' scene still gets me every time.
Perhaps I was just pleasantly surprised, it was two years after its release that I eventually saw it and had pretty low expectations but I unexpectedly found it hilarious. And still do after numerous re-watches.
Intolerable Cruelty's their only out-and-out dud as far as I'm concerned.

If we're taking films then Napoleon Dynamite, Hot Rod, Superbad and Borat.

Airplane!, surely.

And Galaxy Quest, but I think I'm alone on that one.

You say that because you haven't seen truly terrible films, like Wolverine. Oh...

I love the Cohens but I think there more recent output has been a bit underwhelming (haven't seen A Serious Man) and I would in include No Country for Old Men in this, definately. They are still watchable films as they always draw good performances but I haven't really been too bothered for there work since O Brother.

I think The Village is fucking marvelous. The twist blew my mind at the time, seems a bit daft now, but I'll always watch it when its on.

Really???
I guessed that "twist" about 5 minutes in.

Planes, Trains and automobiles, Borat, Midnight run, all funnier than The big Lebowski.
A funny film sure but not the funniest in my opinion.

And while we are talking The Coens, Burn after reading was absolutely terrible!

There's about seven funny jokes in Borat.

Borat is one of the funniest films ever made. Don't let crap like Bruno and the Dictator taint the genius of Borat.

Of the Coen brothers films I've seen I think they are pretty hit and miss:

Millers Crossing - Mediocre
The Big Lebowski - Good
O Brother, Where Art Thou? - Good
No Country for Old Men - Good
Burn After Reading - Mediocre
A Serious Man - Utter fucking horseshit

It's not a lot of their films granted, but I really don't go out of my way to watch them. Sometimes I think I just don't "get" their films.

I found The Dictator funnier than Borat. I laughed for approximately seven-eight minutes in that film. The rest is shit though.

Borat made me laugh but without wanting to sound like some old punk banging on about a band's early stuff, the original sketches in The Ali G Show were way funnier.

Borat.

One of the few comedies I have ever watched where nary a smile was raised never mind a laugh.

I think that it is an interesting experiment and some of the satire almost works perfectly, it's just not very funny. Most of it isn't.

Commando.

XXX: The Next Level.

Showdown In Little Tokyo.

These are the best comedies ever made.

Borat is one of those rare movies that is absolutely hated on these forums but the critics love it. 89% Metacritic, 91% RT and 5* on our very own Empire.

Napoleon Dynamite is sadly another one. I still haven't found any love for this film on here.

Everything I read and heard about Napoleon Dynamite indicated I would love it but I've watched it twice and still haven't laughed. I didn't disilke the film or anyone in it and even quite enjoyed the story but I just didn't find it funny.
Oh and Dev, surely laughing for a whole 7-8 minutes is quite a lot of laughing? I just tried it and my jaw was aching after 30 seconds.

I don't really watch comedy films anyway. The best comedy is found on TV because that's where the best comedy writers are.

Superbad is another underrated one:

Evan: McLovin? What kind of a stupid name is that, Fogell? What, are you trying to be an Irish R&B singer?
Fogell: Naw, they let you pick any name you want when you get down there.
Seth: And you landed on McLovin...
Fogell: Yeah. It was between that or Muhammed.
Seth: Why the FUCK would it be between THAT or Muhammed? Why don't you just pick a common name like a normal person?
Fogell: Muhammed is the most commonly used name on Earth. Read a fucking book for once.
Evan: Fogell, have you actually ever met anyone named Muhammed?
Fogell: Have YOU actually ever met anyone named McLovin?
Seth: No, that's why you picked a dumb fucking name!
Fogell: Fuck you.
Seth: Gimme that. All right, you look like a future pedophile in this picture, number 1. Number 2: it doesn't even have a first name, it just says "McLovin"!
Evan: What? One name? ONE NAME? Who are you? Seal?
