ORIGINAL: homersimpson_esq People who complain about the aliens in Kingdom are missing the point by a country mile. The whole point is that it is a different era. The 50s. Alien paranoia has replaced Nazi paranoia. Indy has moved on, and so should we. The aliens are as believable a mcguffin as the ark of the covenant, or the holy grail, or a bunch of holy stones. The discussions in the scientology and ufo threads should demonstrate that. The CGI gophers are a minor issue, and the fridge is a bit outré, but other than that, it's a cracking film. The aliens work perfectly, both within an Indy film, and also identifying it as a different era. If it had been Nazis again, people would have complained that they were trying to rekindle old magic and failing. Instead, they go for something relevant to the time in which it is set, and they get criticised. Damned if they do, damned if they don't... I like the aliens and think it was a good McGuffin. My only problem was seeing the ship take off at the end. Despite it being no more outlandish than anything else in the films, for me, it just didn't fit well in the Indy universe. It is, however, a much, much better film than Temple which seems to exist solely to test the patience of its audience.
