You're free to disagree.

But you'd be wrong.

The Muppet version is my favourite.

Same here and then Scrooged.

The reason it's wrong of course is that the best Scrooge is Alastair Sim. Then the 2nd best is Alastair Sim (animated). You can argue the toss after those two all you like.

For me it's

Scrooge - 1951
Scrooged
A Christmas Carol - 2009

And I have been Wrong before

I agree with Lazarus on the 1970 version being the best one.

I thought Scrooged was incredibly average, even on release. I loved Bill Murray but thought that someone had forgotten to write a script. Very middling reviews at the time, too, if I remember correctly.

Of course and very good it is, too. But it lacks Anton Rogers singing, 'Thank You Very Much'.

I really do like Finney but it just isn't it for me. And Sim keeps it chilling, as he did with An Inspector Calls. You kind of lose the ghost story part when cheery songs start appearing.

I don't know how unpopular this is seeing as it has a score of 80% on Rotten Tomatoes and Empire pretty much gushed over it, but I thought Young Adult was awful! It's the first film in a long time that I haven't been able to sit though and turned it off (and I endured Inland Empire!)! Nothing about it was even remotely funny, which for a comedy is a sin in my eyes.

Bearing in mind I haven't seen the first or the second, so I'm not really at liberty to comment... however...

Is it just me or is The Expendables 2 looking, whats the word... camp? I dunno. I mean the berets, the muscles, the moustaches... its all a bit.. Village People. I don't want to sound like I am being derogatory towards the group of society that I am clearly trying to avoid upsetting so I apologise if thats how it comes across.

I guess what I am trying to say is, they seem to be trying so hard to be 'manly' that they're failing (in my (unpopular) opinion)...

Edit: what's prompted this is the new T**** F*** cover which popped through my door yesterday. It looks like it could be the cover of a gentleman's gentleman magazine (but for the elderly).

Oh aye, totally agree. The first one made Moulin Rouge look like The Raid.

Yes, like a lot (most? All?) of the '80s actions films it's ripping off, it's camp as Christmas. Big muscly men displaying their huge weapons to each other, whilst women barely get a look in. Yup, very homoerotic.

Probably the opposite of what they're trying to achieve, to be fair.

I was trying to avoid using homoerotic for bashing it as I didn't want to cause any offence.

I think there's a difference between saying a film is homoerotic, intentional or otherwise, though and using it as a stick to bash a film.

I think it's fine to say it's homoerotic.

I mean...it clearly is.

Well I've thought this all along to be honest but didn't mention it when Serpent Vision was here for fear of being called a troll.

Meh. Shouldn't have worried about it. Thankfully you don't have to any longer.

I don't get any of that when I watch '80s action.

Apart from Commando...that is very camp.

Have not seen it yet, but I have been a fan of Reitman's work so far and Theron is in a rich vaine of form. It is on my LoveFilm list however. Have to say considering you don't like Inland Empire I don't see us agreeing on too much

Which Rambo film is the one where Stephen Berkoff dips him in oil and admires his glistening, dripping body saying, "Mm, you're so strong!"

Even though I disagree, I like this post, straight and to the point.

I think McGregor suffers from not being able to do convincing accents. But performances where there isn't stretched are terrific.

Absolutely agree with this. A good actor as long as he doesn't stray too far from these isles.

That's fair enough! I did watch 21 Jump Street (this was on a flight to Antigua so plenty of time to kill!) and laughed my arse off pretty much throughout!

Tango & Cash is a straight up bromance. Ha, I said straight. Which is the opposite of what I was implying. That they were gay for each other. Which is sweet, good for them. It is clear which one was the woman too......
