The Avengers is virtually perfect at what it sets out to do.

Prometheus will be talked about for years to come because it takes that long for people to realise that the emperor is, in fact, naked.

You know that we still take the almighty piss out of homer for using that "emperor's new clothes" phrase with Uncle Boonmee, right? Like, horrifically take the piss out of him and never took him seriously ever again.

Yeah, I'm in the 'Avengers was great' camp. My favourite film of the year so far. I have yet to see Hunger Games.

This isn't about quality (your face is pretty shit btw, also I liked it, it was like Enter the Void only not fucking boring IMO), this is about taking the piss out of homer for saying that phrase.

And we all love ripping into homer right?

No one has ever taken me seriously so I stand to lose little.

Mildly amusing but I think the love for it born of nostalgia more than anything else.

Interesting fact: the most aggressive troll I've ever encountered was one flying the flag against Uncle Boonmee (a film I like very much). It encourages a really interesting brand of vitriol.

There's some talk of it being one of the frontrunners for a modern film to make it in to the Sight & Sound top ten too, such is its standing just two years on from release. I can't wait to see the reaction should it do so.

It is, in it Uncle Buck reincarnates into an water buffalo living in the Laotian/Thailandese border and complains about migrants a lot.

I was (and still am) surprised at how chick-flik it looks, not that that's a bad thing, but I think I was expecting it to be more comedic. I don't think I'll bother with it in the cinema, Tatum's face looks like it's made of plastic (probably is), it weirds me out

I think thats the marketing thats making it look that way. From what I gather it's closer to Soderbergh's stuff than they want audiences to realise.

Did you see the photos from the press screening last night? Some bright spark thought it'd be a good idea to have a band of strippers sitting in the audience, and they went on stage and did a performance as the film finished. I don't know which is worse, that or (the admittedly rather brilliant) idea of serving KFC before Killer Joe previews!

I wonder what they would've come up with back in the '70s when Salo...was released?

Scrooge (Ronald Neame, 1970) is the best version of A Christmas Carol
