With Jar Jar and Nute Gunray in the same film old bubble neck was really aiming for the white hooded dollar.

There are some who might (might) say that Watto was a bit of Jewish stereotype.

And the evil Trade Federation is in no way representative of the American fear of Japanese economic and industrial might, either.

I've said it before, but I thought I would repeat it:

Marco Beltrami is a fucking AWFUL composer. Like REALLY fucking awful. Like fucking falling into a bucket of dogshit awful. Any film that has the words "Music composed by MARCO BELTRAMI" will likely be a steaming pile of vomit.

His 3.10 To Yuma score was ace.

Return of the King is the weakest of the LotR trilogy.

I somewhat agree, the theatrical cut is far too cluttered with stuff going on and has little or no room to breathe and to develop its characters. The extended edition at over an hour longer is far superior but overall, yes its my least favourite of the three.

Still fucking awesome though.

Never been the biggest fan of the trilogy (sacrilege I know), I like them well enough and of course it is an incredibly well made series. But I doubt individually or as a set any of them would appear in a top 100 list if I were to ever write one. But your estimation is definitely correct in my opinion - plus it gets bogged down in far too much melodrama for my liking. Then of course there are the 67 endings......zzzzzzzzz

Of course, if and when I see the extended editions such a declaration will definitely be open to change.

Return of the King is the weakest of all the LOTR, but by such a tiny amount it makes no difference whatsoever. And it has at least two of the five best scenes from the trilogy. And I've never seen any film as emotional.

He's done the Scream films, The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada, I, Robot, The Hurt Locker, 3:10 To Yuma, Blade 2 and The Woman In Black. I can't say any of those scores stood out to me, but the films are all excellent.

Agreed. It has incredible moments sure, but it has easily the worst stuff from the trilogy and about twelve endings too much. I do really like it still.

Really? I hadn't realised he'd scored those.

I hated The Hurt Locker, mind, so I stand by my statement. His scores from Die Hard 4.0, The Thing, and The Omen made my ears bleed.

I love the scores to the Scream films. Except maybe the third, it's quite lazy and forgettable. He does different themes for the fourth one, though but the scores for the first two are my faves.

The score to Die Hard 4 is shit. Actual shit. Not a patch on Kamen's score for the other films.

Again, I've seen the films (apart from The Thing) but don't really remember the scores. So I guess what I've learnt from this is that I don't think he's bad, just unmemorable.

I quite liked his score for The Thing. Well, the parts that contained motifs from Carpenter's original.

I really like Christopher Nolan, he's one of the few directors whose work I'll always check out. But he can't do emotional depth for shit. He can portray themes and ideals no problem, but he's never tugged on my heartstrings. Aside from Batman Begins, his films have a severe lack of warmth, if you know what I mean. A sterility.

I'd argue that Cobb's storyline with Mal in Inception is pretty devastating, especially the scene where (highlight for spoilers) she jumps from the ledge. That was heart-wrenching. Also, Al Pacino's character in Insomnia is pretty damn emotionally deep, and Bruce Wayne's parents dying in Batman Begins is just grim.

I'd argue he can do emotion but only when it comes to the big and obvious emotional themes. When it comes to the more subtle stuff he's not so great, its probably his biggest weakness as a director.

What about Leo screaming " Oh JesUS NOOO!!!! oOOOooOOHH" after Cotillard goes base jumping? He's so sad. Sad is an emotion.
