I wouldn't say I didn't like it, but for some reason I thought it was going to be a much darker film (like Sweeney Todd or Sleepy Hollow), so I was surprised that it's actually a comedy. Of course Burton has proved he can handle comedy, but I guess I'm just a little disappointed that it's not going to be what I was looking forward to.

This. I was really expecting a return to films more like Sleepy Hollow : with a bit more bite. At first I really didn't like Dark Shadows (fish out of water comedy...sigh) but I have watched it again since then and realised it could be alright.  I still love Depp knocking his hea on the piano: fantastic comic timing.

You have seen all of them? Seems a bit weird if you clearly don't like him as a director.

I'd agree Batman is half decent. I reckon he's done maybe half a dozen films that are better than that though, and Ed Wood, Big Fish, Scissorhands and Beetlejuice are quality.

I've seen lots of films by directors I don't like, though - I don't think it's that odd if you're interested in films?

Yeah, but I would peg you as someone who does have a very varied taste in film and would therefore keep chancing works by directors they don't like. Breeze doesn't - not that there's anything wrong with that, just sayin'.

Perhaps, but Burton has such a particular style in all of his films that, if you didn't like one I can't see why you would bother to watch any others.

In the hopes of finding one you'd like? To be able to comment on a directors work (even if it's simply to say he's repetitive and lacks originality). I've watched so many Godard without success. I succeeded, just, with Bergman.

Yeah I'm yet to see a Kevin Smith film I liked (apart from maybe bits of Red State) but I make a point of watching them all partly back up my anti-Smith agenda whenever his name comes up in the pub, but also because I quite like him as a person/raconteur and think that surely he must have a good movie somewhere inside him?

You didn't like Dogma? His An Evening With... is probably the best thing he's done though, the Superman anecdote is fucking brilliant.

Which film did it for you (Bergman)? I started with the Seventh Seal and instantly loved his work. Still a lot to see but, loved all so far.

That's probably the one that irritated me the most! Though Clerks 2, Mallrats and Jay And Silent Bob... weren't far behind. Red State has its moments, Zak And Miri... had the odd good line and (for once) a decent cast but other than that his writing just makes my teeth itch. Though I'd agree with you, his anecdotes are great and he has a likeable persona, it's just for me he's never put that on the page or the screen.

Every single one of the director's films though? I just find it a bit odd that someone would put themselves through watching every Tim Burton film especially if they clearly don't like him. If you don't like Beetljuice, you're not going to sit through Mars Attacks or Sleepy Hollow, are you, really?

Well, maybe you would, Elab

Personally, I'd just save my money if I'd been burned that many times.

Oh, apart from Clerks and Dogma I've never seen any of them at the pictures (though even if I wanted to you only tend to get a three day window anyway )

I really enjoyed Dogma - anything that takes a pop at religion is well worth a look in my book

About Kevin Smith films I prefer Clerks, Jay and Silent Bob, Red State and one or two others.

I'm not a fan of Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Jersey Girl. Haven't seen Clerks 2 or Zack and Miri.

I'm having Deja-Vu on this topic.

Watched Wild Strawberries for the first time probably over a year and a half ago now. It's a very special film indeed, love it.

I've said it once and I'll say it again.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is a great film.
People just hate it because nostalgia prevents them from liking it. And because of the aliens.
But that's it.

Also,

5. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
4. Ed Wood
3. Corpse Bride
2. Big Fish
1. Sweeney Todd

Must resist...ah sod it.

-Shia LaBoeuf swining with/like monkeys

-Cate Blanchett overacting with a shocking accent( and just being crap)

-Ray Bloody Winstone

-Shia Labeouf trying to be Marlon Brando

-Harrisson is just too old

-Marion is pants and just whinges

-Ray Bloody Winstone

-The Shameless waste of John Hurt

-Ants used as a demonic killing machine

-The Crystal Skull looks like a Toys 'r' us bargain basement item

There are tons more reasons as well (The criminally unoriginal Aliens, lack of any really good set pieces, lack of heart, lack of fun, terrible casting.... ALIENS) as well. It's not the worst film ever....just the most dissapointing  .
