You let me know when you find one of them...

Most of my friends who have tatoos got their's when they were about 16, I don't think I've ever heard of a tatoo parlour which asks for ID. As long as you look around 17-18 then it's okay. Apparently it's real easy to get a second one underage as well because if they're caught out they just blame the fact that the person already had tatoos so they assumed they were 18 and over.

 I haven't seen any ask for ID, but that's not to say it doesn't happen.

I was much older than 16 when I got my first one though so it's never really been an issue

 I can't see why the legal age for tatoos can't be 16. If you can damage your body smoking at 16 then surely you're of mature enough mind to make a decision about tatoos at that age too.

I have, amongst others, the same tatoo as Angelina Jolie - the Latin quod me nutruit, me detruit (that which feeds me, destroys me) is emblazoned on my right shoulder. I did not know she had this quote on her body and was fucking gutted to find out two years after getting mine done. And I thought I was so fucking clever. Good taste that girl, though.

 Right, here's the latest versions of the tattoo I've been thinking about.



I like the design of the body and think it would work well as a tattoo.  Out of those three options, I'd probably go with the one that has the all black head.  I'm not actually convinced by the shape of the head though.  I'm not sure why but it does seem to be out of proportion with the rest of the design.  I'm stumped as to how to change it though.

 I don't think it is out of proportion.  I think it just shows up more as it's solid colour.  I definately prefer that one though.  Was this one for your back?

 The plan was to have it as a band running around my left arm.  The design needs to be scaled down a little bit.  Going back to the head, I just think it is raised just a little bit high from the body.  Do you think it would look better if it was a little flatter?

 How many sittings is it taking? And if you don't mind, how much is it costing?

I'm after a another tattoo, this thread has resurrected the urge. Damn you DJ Satan!

I'm wanting one on my back, nearly had one started the other day when I was in Whitby but changed my mind. I'd rather go to my usual tattooist, he's the best in Yorkshire. I've got quite a broad back though so it'll cost me a fortune.

 I'm having 3, 3 hour sittings (so far - there may be another 3 hour one) and it's going to be £40 per hour.  It's going to be at least £400 in total.

I have quite a long back, I'm not exactly a short-arse.

Unfortunately my usual tattooist is in Leicester, which makes it too far for me to get to to have any more work done by him, so I'm putting my faith (and my back) in the hands of a stranger

 Wow, that's some lengthy tattooing. I'm sure it'll fly by. Can't wait to see what they look like, starnger or not, he'll always be remembered as the man that gave you wings, he doesn't advertise Red Bull does he?

I'm just searching the net now to see if I can find a design I saw that I really liked. Then all Mick has to do is add his twist on it and I'm sure it'll be a sure fire winner.....as soon as I find the £'s from somewhere!

 That'd make a nice tattoo, it's a bit like my first ever tattoo.



Don't let them find out! But if you're old enough, then you're old enough. It doesn't really matter what they think.

I was 18 when I had that dragon done, my mum didn't really want me to but she couldn't stop me. After it was healed and everything she really liked it. Before that she just thought tattoos looked horrible and common. Now she realises it's an artform thanks to me getting them. I'm hoping to get that re-touched and added to in the near future.

She especially liked the tattoo I got on my inner forearm to mark her beating cancer. She thought I was mad, but I felty it was something I had to do. I lot of my close friends know what it is and why I got it but a lot of people don't. They don't even realise it says "Mom"!  Which is why I designed this, and didn't get a heart with a scroll underneath with the word MUM in.

 i know my parents would never do that. My cousin got one done years ago that everyone except our nan knew about. When round there one of his friends let slip and she went in to see it. He tried to tell her it was henna but she wouldnt beleive him and gave him the old "dissapointed" speech. And he's nearly 30!

You guys are lucky then.  My family hate mine.  I still get the occassional lecture about how I'm going to regret having them done when I'm old and wrinkly.  Not going to stop me getting another one though.  Only my bank balance can do that.

 My mum knew about mine before I did (it was arranged by my brother as a surprise) and she's okay with it, she hates it but she knows it was something I really wanted and that I had really thought it through. She pulls this really funny face whenever I mention getting another one mind.

Oh I still get all that!  I told my mum about my wings (haven't told her when I'm getting them done, I'll leave that as a surprise).  She did her fantastic rolling eyes thing but left it at that.

My brother on the other hand was going on about how cool they are and how I have to show them off next time I go up.

It's a full back piece brother darling, says I.  Would mean taking my top off in the pub.
