Wooooo, just had my first tattoo done felt slightly nervous beforehand but as soon as started I was fine. It didn't hurt so much as irratate and right now it feels like I need to itch it. Just need to wait for it to settle down and I can take the clingfilm off so IO don't get too much blood on my work shirt

I've recently finally decided what I'd want as a tattoo. Now I just have to get it designed the way I want it and see whether I actually have the guts to go through that much pain. I want it on the front of my hip. How much is it likely to hurt to get it there?

Anywhere where you are having one done closer to the bone is more tender than into muscle.  It doesn't really hurt that much though - more of an annoyance than anything.  Kinda like a cat scratch only not so bad.

In the process of designing and decideing what exactly I will have done but I want to ask what the situation is with distortion if you increase in size. At the moment I am quite slim but I have taken up thai Kick boxing and expect to muscle up over the next year or so. Is it something that should be woried about?

Nothing to worry about there.  The tattoo stretches as you get bigger and should you get smaller it goes back to normal size.

The one I have on my stomach got huge when I was pregnant!  But she's back to the right size now without any nasty wrinkles or marks

So does the design get bigger in proportion or does it distort - the thing is that I dont really plan on getting bigger and then getting smaller. I want to maintain muslce mass.

Shouldn't be any distortion.  The only time I've seen something like that happen was when a friend of mine was scarred in a car accident.  Other than that you should be fine

Im sorry, Im not laughing at your friend or anything like that but if I was injured in a car accident a distorted tattoo would be the least of my worries. Anyway, cheers for the info!

I reckon a tattoo should be about individuality.

Agreed although if you have a specific idea in your head and it means something to you personally and can find the design there's no reason why you shouldn't go for something already out there.  You can always tailor it to your own specification.  I took a design and changed it and then added something that was personal to me.  The original design was all black but changed it so there was an emerald (my birthstone) teardrop in the middle.

First appointment is August 18th, a nice 3 hour session.  Followed by a 2 hour one on the 19th then another 3 hour one on the following Friday.  Depending on how much gets done (and it will probably be the majority of it other than definative shading) there will also be one on the Saturday after that.

Basically it will look finished for the meet, although will still be healing (and driving me mad with itching) but I can go back and add more definition as and when.

I can't post pictures here at work, but I'll try to remember to do it when I get home tonight.  Safe to say though that the time quoted doesn't actually do the thing justice and I probably will need to go back for more definition.

Fair enough.  I was a tad concerned when the tattooist said that a backpiece was a world of pain away from other tattoos.  Meh!  I've had a 10 1/2lb kid - nothing can be worse than that!

My friend Bex has lots of tatoos, she's 20 and she's been getting them since she was about 16. She has, if I can remember rightly, dragonflies, a butterfly, stars down her arms, a pattern around her breasts, a pattern around her belly, stars down her legs and her boyfriend's nickname tatooed on her ass (no joke! only one I haven't seen although it wouldn't surprise me if she has more!). She also has pink hair but she's not 'punk', she really hates being called that! Her boyfriend's got a body suit pretty much now. He has 'The Prodigy' tatooed on his back which he designed (similar to my av) and too many others to describe.

I still haven't decided on mine, the Charlton one has pushed further to the front on my mind.
