HQ, while in future years it may remind you of the bad times, it will also (hopefully) remind you of the joy of getting through them. Not much wrong with that sentiment if you ask me. If you're not sure about using those words, what about something more symbolic? The traditional Japanese koi design perhaps? According to legend, it swims upwards against a waterfall to pass through the Dragon Gate, whereupon it is transformed into a dragon - symbolising overcoming life's difficulties to emerge stronger. Though it may have to become a slightly bigger tattoo than you had anticipated to do it justice. As for placement, the best advice I could give would be to go into a studio and speak to an artist.
