All the talk about the middle of pitch is irrelevant when we just stop playin with 25 mins to go. We could have anyone in there but we just thought it was over. If we do that against any of the top 4 from last year we will lose. Simple as that.

So when are Man City going to get to play against that defense?

Not after we repeat another thrashing against Arsenal!

Every year people find a reason to knock United (and as some of you know, well, I'm not a United fan...) but every year they're there or thereabouts. They almost certainly will be again. This season is shaping up to be the (cheesy copyright alert) the best ever.
Cech, Baines, Ekottou, Cole, Ivanovic, Hazard, Michu, Routledge, Fellaini, Jelavic, Torres....agreed?

I concur

Our defence is a total shambles. And what a woeful penalty by RvP too

But I agree, the defence is woeful. That needs to be fixed ASAP. There'll be times RvP cannot perform a miracle like today and we'll suffer.

RVP rescued United from another mediocre performace. There's still massive issues in the centre of midfield, no mobility or bite. I think the top teams are gonig to be able to bully Cleverly/Giggs/Scholes/Carrick all over just like Everton did and Newcastle did last season.

Feel bad for Southampton, they deserved something from that.

To be fair the top team all have midfields which are vaguely similiar to United apart from City who have the greater strengh in personnel and flexibility.

Arsenal: Cazorla,Arteta,Diaby,Ramsey
Chelsea: Oscar,Lampard,Hazard,Mikel,Ramires
Liverpool: Allen,Gerrard,Lucas,Spearing,Shevley,Sahin
United: Carrick,Cleverly,Anderson,Giggs,Scholes,Fletcher,Kagawa

The midfields above have a much more strong basis on pass-and-move and ,general, creativity than that of steal, physicality and height.
In my mind its going to be the so called weaker teams which are going to cause United and these above far more troubles than what,I think, they will cause to eachother.

EDIT: Oh and Scholes changed the game for United today.

Great hat trick by Van Persie but you were getting done over for a period in that match and it's only when the Southampton manager took off a couple of their better performers did things start to turn around. I predicted you lot would be thereabouts at the end of the season but honestly I don't think you've made enough big signings to compete with Man City

I think Chelsea have done the most to try and strengthen their team and will give Man City a run for their money

Hmm,I personally felt Chelsea need to get there defensive structure sorted before that happens, much in the same vein as United.
Arsenal,on todays showing, looked the most perfect team i've seen this season. If they can keep up the same performances and form then I can really see them challenging this year.

I think the new look attacking Chelsea aren't covering their back four as well as they should and this is contributing to their defensive problems. I agree Arsenal look very solid but despite today I think they'll continue to struggle to score goals which will prevent them from seriously challenging for the title.

Didn't take long for Berbatov to start moaning:

ManU were in for Neymar on the last day of the transfer window

Is it just me, or do I wonder if this is just a story that Utd would have spent the big bucks on a big player. I know they bought Berbatov at the last minute. But just seems like if Utd were serious about Neymar they'd have done this earlier in the window.

But both Santos and United have denied this though. Personally I feel the he's overrated, esp on his Olympics showing.

Really happy with the win today. Great debut goals by Powel and Buttner (hey, stop sniggering at the back, yes you!)

And what a way for Scholes The Master to cap 700 games for United! God I love that guy!

Gotta love this quote by SAF.

quote:

It's fantastic Paul scored - that is what we always remember him for as a young player, ghosting into the penalty box. Obviously, as he's got older, he doesn't need to do that as we prefer him to play in central midfield but he scored on his 100th, 200th, 300th, 400th, 500th, not 600th but now 700th appearance and it's fantastic.

What a record although I reckon not scoring on his 600th appearance is going to start doing his head in. I know it'd piss me off anyway .

Nice to see Berbatov bagging a couple for Fulham today. I'm still gutted things didn't work out for him at Old Trafford. The guy is silky smooth and has probably the best first touch I've ever seen. I hope he gets a hatful at Craven Cottage this season.
