I didn't see much, if any, coverage saying "why did he take Jenus instead of a striker", it was all about Hargreaves. My point is he's never had the respect he deserves because people in Britain rarely see him play, when they should just accept he plays (and wins) for one of the top five clubs in the world.

I agree. Apparently he's quite an introverted character and doesn't seek the limelight off the pitch, living in a relatively modest house and simply enjoying being a footballer. A proper player.

I dont think it anything to do with United, This is more he does fancy playing in England at this time.  He very similar to Scholes attitude wise

 Regardless, you have to admit that Man United has a greater reputation than Villareal and I'm tempted to say a more respected form of football.
 
Anyway, my midfield picks would be Hargreaves and Riquelme. What ever happened to the Benefica player who Ferguson wanted? (I forget his name.)
 
Failing that, the way Chelsea are going with saturating their squad, I'm hopeful that we could pick a few disgruntled players off them.

 His consistency is not good but if his fitness was improved and he adapted to the English game some more, we have a talent.

Considering you aren't supposed to speak ill of your club team mates in public but instead keep it all in the dressing room and training ground (something exrtremely important to Sir Alex) I highly doubt Rooney would have said it to the press.

I can't believe you watched it, I watched the first 10 or 15 minutes and gave in, it was dull and boring, the pitch was awfull, the crowd with the constant horn blowing was annoying, MUTV have the worst commentators and picture quality, and finally... it was a pre season friendly and we had about 2 big names playing.

It was basically a reserve team pre season friendly.

Just a thought, and I slightly can't believe anyone hasn't mentioned this yet - why aren't United sniffing round Buffon.  Ferguson has said he wants to take advantage of the fire sale and I can't think of a better keeper that'd be readily available.  He's a proven international and established and will be around long enough to take over from VDS and for Ben Foster to establish himself.  More expensive than Kuszczak, certainly, but surely better.  Plus he's only 28, which is young in goalkeeping terms.

Like I say, just a thought while he's potentially available....

Buffon's been mentioned, but he's also still being questioned about his role in an illegal gambling ring, so it's probably not wise to spend any money on him if there's a chance he might not be allowed to play (the Totonero scandal of 1980 led to several players being suspended for 3 years, although Paulo Rossi had his own suspension reduced by 12 months so that he could play in the '82 World Cup).

In other news, it's not prett certain that - subject to medical - Ruud's definitely off.  24 hours after Ferguson saying that he's off nowhere on the cheap, he'll be a Real player by the end of the week for £11m, 5 million less than th asking price.  Hopefully this means that the Torres deal is done...

He'll be free in a couple of weeks, the relegated players are getting their contracts ripped up.

Jeez, you're optimistic. Torres deal is looking increasingly unlikely due to the player's wage demands, the transfer fee and our mountains of debt. We can't even close deals for Carrick and a new 2nd choice keeper, that's what it's come to.
Fergie is converting Smith back into a centre forward apparently and with Ole, Saha, Rooney and Rossi he thinks he's covered. I have to hope he's playing mindgames with Torres and Athletico, otherwise we're screwed.

If Vieira joins Inter, Gattuso stays at Milan and we fail to sign Carrick, we're beyond screwed. 5th place this year lads.

 I hope Fergie promotes David Jones to our first team squad this season. He look like he could do a good job for us in midfield, He would be better than Oshea and Fletcher in our midfield
