Fox would never allow a crown jewel like Titanic go to Criterion.

They'll do a better job with it anyway.

You'd have thought reshooting it would have been a bit expensive for a DVD release though.....

Nothing really I'd shell out extra for those, but maybe add Letter Never Sent to the wishlist. Upcoming it's really just Godzilla and Three Outlaw Samurai for me, I think.

Trois Couleurs: Bleu (Three Colors - Blue)
When I saw Kieslowski`s Three Colors trilogy for the first time as a whole a few years back I found this to be the least of the three parts, didn`t really do it for me. But how the times have changed.
Kieslowski conducts a beautiful symphony of images and sounds that go perfectly together. From the very first scene they make a great couple and Kieslowski works towards a sublime climax. Juiliet Binoche is of course a very important part in the beauty of the film. She gives a brilliant performance as the woman who loses her husband and daughter in a car crash and tries to go without memories and love in her life.
From start to finish it was an amiable and engaging piece of work, my opinion after seeing this brilliant blu-ray has certainly been upped.

9,0/10

Trois Couleurs: Blanc (Three Colors: White)
The middle part and for me personally the least interesting part of the trilogy. It does contain a good portion of black humor and a little look into the Poland at the beginning of the `90s, right after the collapse of the Iron Curtain.
The downsides of the film are a) that it doesn`t have such a good and charming leading lady as the other two films and b) that it doesn`t have a real interesting story.
Not bad by any means, but the least interesting part of the bunch.

7,7/10

Seen on wednesday:

Trois Couleurs: Rouge (Three Colors: Red)
Even if this hadn`t been a good film there still would`ve been one big reason to watch it: Irene Jacob. What a truly beautiful lady! Just like in The Double Life Of Veronique she is super beautiful and knows to get the attention drawn to her every scene again. Luckily she gives a great performance in the lead role, so there`s more than meets the eye.
Her beauty isn`t the only thing that the film leans on. It is a beautiful work that talks about themes like Destiny and Fate, and wheter or not that excists.
A brilliant closing to a sublime trilogy, I`d say this is the best of the lot.

9,3/10

I think it'll be worth the double-dip for the couple I have. The Organizer has also been on my watch list for a while - there was a copy passed round on my course, but it wasn't a great one.

Which ones have been available before then? Jiri Menzel is a name I recognise, so I assume his film is one of them?

Daisies and The Party and the Guests have both had Second Run releases over here. We're pretty well served with Czech et al releases thanks to them.

They do have an interesting catalogue - I think the first Weerasethakul came from them, definitely Blissfully Yours. They've had a couple of Chinese films as well - I picked up Black Snow because of Jiang Wen.

The Party and the Guests must be cannon fodder because that is in no way a "pearl".

It's one of the most controversial of the Wave though, BANNED FOREVER and shit...

Personally I'm surprised they didn't put Diamonds of the Night in that package instead.

I've looked through all the sites that sell R1s in this thread and the cheapest I can see it at present is Amazon US, $44.01, which xe.com says is about 28.31, but then you've got to factor in the intnl. delivery charge, and there's no guarantee you won't get hit by customs.

If you buy a few US DVDs it's worth signing up with Deep Discount and Barnes & Noble, as both regularly send out good vouchers, the former having a big 25% sale once or twice a year, the latter issuing regular discounts of varying amounts and occasionally having a half price Criterions sale. However, both (esp B&N) send out a lot of emails if you do sign up.

The base price of Human Condition trilogy on B&N is nigh on $74s, so it's only gonna be within your price range when the next 50% sale rolls round. It's $53 on DD, so again, it'd be a wait for the 25% off sale before it was cheaper than Amazon.

Avoiding customs is the problem, though - people in different locations and on different orders seem to escape or be stung by customs. You could order it from a European-based site, to avoid or minimise customs, but you'll pay a bit more, so you'll have to either a) take the risk and by from Amazon US, or b) do some maths and work out which is s cheaper - to buy from Amazon US including customs charges vs buying from UK site.

You can currently get it via Amazon UK Marketplace in New condition for 42 (inc del).
It's 44.17 at PlanetAxel (inc del & fee to cover customs) and 44.99 at MovieTyme (free del).

EDIT:
Ah, shit, I just had a look on Amazon US, specifying a UK deliver addy and it says " We're sorry. This item can't be shipped to your selected destination. You may either change the shipping address or delete the item from your order. "

So next cheapest is Deep Discount $59.36 (incl intnl. del) = about 38.13.
and then ImportCDs - $60.25 (inc del.) = about 38.70.

Go into the New/used page - the one on the main page is marginally cheaper but isn't actually Amazon - Amazon's is $44,99 and can be found on the other page. That will ship internationally (as will some of the sellers on that page).

Damn! I'd initally thought newspaper because of the PC but couldn't place the film even with that.

That's a really weird stain/shadow on that chap's shirt.
