Doubtful that Chris Carter will ever do another series, right?

Didn't even know there had been suggestions of another series. Think it would be mistake at this point. The show has a almost un-matched legancy certainly as far as cult Sci-Fi viewing is concerned and to manage the level of consistancy they did for nine seasons is fantastic.

I'm confused, are we talking Chris Carter doing another series of The X-Files or just another series in general? I know I'd like to see a third movie.

Think Chris Carter might be up for it. David Duchovny wouldn't though.

The fact that Duchovny was metioned in this quote gave me the impression that it was about the X-Files and not just another Carter series, but nothing else was mentioned, so I don't if there have been suggestions of that kind or not.

I still think the X-Files could work on the big screen, but after the poor first two features I don't know if it would be wise to make a third.

I don't think Fight The Future was poor. Good. But not amazing. As an X-Phile I thought I Want To Believe was good... but not good enough. For the outsider it'd be a meh.

I'd love to see Mulder & Scully together again. Big screen would be great, but... I think DD & GA are probably done with it now.

I dread to think of a "re-boot" coming along.

Watched some random episodes over the weekend, Dreamland I & II and Home, good times. Feels like it had been ages since I watched the show, I remember S4 & 6 being my favourites though.

I saw most of seasons 3-5 on the original run on BBC, but I was of the age when girls and stuff got in the way. I haven't seen any of them after the first movie.

Well I'm enjoying season 1 so far. Just watched Ice, an episode I had seen before, x-files meets The Thing. Maybe my fave so far, althought I did like Squeeze and Shadows

This site has some pretty cool stuff on the influences on TXF.

Hmmm... I think the Twin Peaks paralell is a bit of a stretch. The two shows are mostly very different, and the similarities the author lists are superficial at best (nonsense at worst).
Agree with the Clarece Starling one though.

By the way, the Duchovny cameo in Twin Peaks is HILARIOUS!!!

Who else thinks The Post-Modern Prometheus is Chris Carter trying and failing to make a Darin Morgan episode?

Nope, thanks for pointing it out.

I like PMP a lot..although I know someone who considers it, Triangle, basically anything from CC, to be a train wreck.

I just think PMP tries very, very hard to be quirky, funny and clever, but fails on all three fronts.

Just compare it to two other D. Morgan-inspired episodes - Small Potatoes and Bad Blood. Works of genius both. Light, original, smart and hilarious. Succeeding without trying :)

Struggling through season 8. Kinda liked it the first time round, but now Dogget truly annoys the hell out of me. What is the point of that character? And why Scully has tears in her eyes in half of her scenes?

Apparently Bruce Campbell auditioned for the role, which would have made it a lot better, or at least more interesting. Robert Patrick just isn't leading man material I'm afraid.

In season eight he proved to be a weak choice, but the following year when they changed his character and made Scully more like Mulder used to be his character worked better. I agree he was never suited for the role like DD, but he is still a good actor and Dogget did grow as a character imo.

Season 8 has it's moments. The episode Badlaa is one of them. I don't really mind Doggett and Reyes but the mythology episodes are wearing out to breaking point by that stage.

I could be remembering it wrongly, but didn't the mythology episodes wear out after season three?

Does anyone else have Jane Goldman's book on the show? Its called Book of the Unexplained and I picked it up in my local Oxfam for 2.49 today, it looks at the early episodes (first three or four seasons) and also the real thoeries behind them.  Looks decent.

I bought both volumes when they first came out. I enjoyed them at the time but haven't read them since. They've spent 15 years gathering dust! I was going to give them a go again whe I saw the show two years back but never did. Certainky worth 2.49 though.

Loved every season up until the last one, which was mostly boring until the last episode, which was still poor by X-Files standards, but isn't as bad as people say it is. I liked Doggett in Season 8, but didn't like how the entire show became about him and Reyes in Season 9. They were fine as additional characters, but not as the leads.
I was the only kid at school who watched this show... Gillian Anderson was my first crush at around the same time the rest of the boys were more interested in Anderson's of the Pamela variety.
