Can you imagine if the show was only starting now? M&S running around with smartphones and iPads. Feck that.

Can you imagine the Fox of today not immediately cancelling a show as smart and convoluted as TXF?

I dunno, Fox still seems to take the most chances, they just don't often work out.

I think they would have made The X Files like Fringe.

I suppose that depends on how commercially successful it would have been if made today, besides they not making Fringe anything despite low ratings, why would they do such a thing to The X-Files?

X-Files hit at the right time. sadly I think that the sequel's poor box office has put an end to X-Files and I don't think we will see another film which is sad because I liked seasons 1,2,3,5,6,7 and the first film quite a lot.

What's wrong with season 4?

Season 4 == One of the Best

I wish they'd do another film. I know there are a few mentalists who'd have a break down and go see it at least 3 times if they did. But hey! I know there probably aren't enough of us.

Shame that.

For me it just was not as good as some of the other seasons. May give it rewatch.

Anyone ever pulled down any XF podcasts? There are a few out there...can't really afford the bandwidth to check them out regularly.

Watched Roadrunners recently (ep 4 from season 8) and have to say it doesn't hold up as well on repeat viewing. Not as well as Patience at any rate  One of the best creature eps on the show. Pity they didn't make a sequel episode (to liven season 9 maybe). The Bat creature hunting Scully in Washington? Delicious!

I got Season 1 in a goodie bag at Big Screen and have just started to rewatch it. Haven't seen them since they first aired on BBC 2 back in the day. I think I only watched up to Season 4 or 5 and then the convoluted conspiracy started to leave me cold.

Where does the show go wrong (just so I know) because I'm enjoying Season 1 so much, I might get Season 2 (and the two movies).

The show does not really go wrong but I know what you mean about the conspiracy story line it did get to much but its worth going for the whole 9 seasons. The 2nd film is not really that good but I need to rewatch it.

It goes 'wrong' in season 8. I personally don't think 8 and 9 are that bad just nowhere near the quality of what came before them.

In terms of seasons, from the ones I have seen at least, 1,2 and 3 are just about flawless, 4 and some of 5 takes quite a big dip, and then 6 I like a lot because of the way it goes against the grain of what the show was and brings out a different element, 7 is not as good, but does have some cracking episodes and the finale is excellent. I am now watching the post Fox years for the first time having not seen them the first time, so far season 8 is off to a decent start, and the relationship between Patrick and Anderson isn't as lacking as I was expecting.

I just finished with season seven yesterday and I'm not quite sure whether to keep going on to season eight. I want to see what happens with Mulder but I don't like the sound of a Scully/Doggett/Skinner scowl-fest without some of Mulder's comic relief.

Yeah I have mixed feelings on Doggett so far, Patrick is a good actor, and the transtion has been quite smoothed, but he just lacks the charm of Fox, and his quick witt, and I just think him and Scully have the same sort of chelmstry.

Just rewatching these from the start, good stuff.

It goes wrong once they actually resolve the Mulder/sister plot, and are we left with the sillier alien conspiracy stuff. I don't have a problem with Dogget and Reyes, in fact the stuff with his son was pretty good and there are some great episodes (I like that one with the kid and the little insects inside people or the Badlaa one). The worst offenders are Jump the Shark and the final episode ...

got my season 5 set in the post yesterday. my epic x files rewatch project (with my GF) had slowed right down due to other stuff to watch getting in the way. We finally finished season 4 this morning so season 5 next. The further down the line i get with X Files, the less episodes i've seen so im even more excited at the prospect of seeing a lot of eps for the first time.

i just finished season 4 and its the worst out of the first 4 IMO by a longshot, 1-3 were excellent, 4 felt very hit and miss

I would agree with this, I think there was a bit of a shakey spell around about 4 and 5, before it took off again in 6 and 7. Am struggling a bit with the post-Fox years, they made it into too much of a action thriller type show, with too much riding on special effects and not enough of characters and plot, and while I except the Patrick taking over is not as bad as I was expecting, he still lacks that magic and charm for me.

The one point I disagree on it that I actually quite like the finale, it felt like the only logical way to bring things to a close and the final scene was perfect!

Doubtful that Chris Carter will ever do another series, right?

Think Chris Carter might be up for it. David Duchovny wouldn't though.

I know that CC bashing is popular past-time amongst some in TXF community and I'll be the first to admit that the guy made mistakes, but after listening to one of Dean Haglund's podcasts I've a bit more respect for him now. Basically Dean said that CC didn't try to micro-manage every. single. aspect. of the show from the art department, lighting, etc and that he let people just get on with their work. Respect for that.
