Extreme Championship Wrestling is back and as I'm pretty sure that there could be a different fanbase to ECW than the current WWE supporters, I think it warrants its own thread.

Basically self-explanatory.

  • Is Angle's move gonna be a good idea?
  • Will this simply be ECW-lite?
  • Are the older ECW stars gonna be able to keep up with the pace?
  • Will it fail when the McMahons lost interest?
  • Etc.?

Some Important Dates:

ECW VS WWE: Thursday 8th June - 2AM, Sky Sports.
ECW: ONS 2: Sunday 11th June - 1AM, Sky Sports.

At the moment the ECW revolution is going strong and they have an excellent card to boot for One Night Stand this sunday.
Who knows how long it will last? I'm still unsure wheather it will be successful. The ponits mentioned above will ultimitely dtermine it's long term success. WWE and Paul Heyman need to establish right from the outset (this wednesday) what they want the ECW brand to be. It needs to be unique and different from what the WWE is offering at the moment. That means hardcore action, flaming tables, etc.

I think the only problem with ONS is that it currently carries too many members of the WWE roster who were not a member of the ECW revolution originally.

What, like Angle vs. Orton? It doesn't get any more ECW than that...sigh. That was a complete swerve by the way. Angle issuing a challenge to someone from any ring, "4-sided, 6-sided or 8-sided" obviously raised expectations that it would be someone from TNA or UFC, but no.

Can't wait for this to become weekly again.

Is anyone gonna wait for sky to air the shows on a Sunday night? I certainly won't. I'll be downloading them on wedensday mornings!

I was expecting the return of...RHYNO! Apparently he's sick of TNA and wants back in.

There were rumours flying about on the net saying it was gonna be Tough Enough winner Daniel Puder. That would have sense since he used to be in UFC and he also had a slight rivalry back when he was in the Tough Enough. I am pleased that it's Orton though. Even though it isn't traditional ECW it's at least gonna be a good match.

Apparently Vince is considering moving the following to ECW:

Shannon Moore
Matt Hardy
Charlie Haas

and a couple of others.....

Where did you get that from Walkerboy?

They would own in ECW along with CM Punk, Mr Kennedy, Kid Kash, Jamie Noble, Cade and Murdoch, Joey Matthews, The Mexicools and Vito and Nunzio.

This'll be the first time i've actually watched ECW on the TV and have only watched the Dvd "The Rise And Fall...", but i certainly remember Ryhno. I'd love to see him return.

Can't watch tonight or ONS because of exams. Gotta catch repeats so don't expect early replies.

can't see Kennedy joining ECW cos:

a. He's just recovered from a major injury and that wouldn't exactly be great for his revocery
b. He's too much of a star on the rise - Vince will want to keep him in WWE as most of the people who are getting pops currently are moving to ECW (Angle RVD etc)

Lets hope Henry goes to ECW......he would rule (that Eating Challenge Weekly)

So.... Big Show is now ECW...... and Rey has been offered a contract with ECW.

Looks VERY much like Smackdown is crumbling, with Angle gone, Rey possibly going and Orton having moved to Raw.
That only leaves Mr Kennedy and Batista as the main draws.......

Haven't watched last night's show yet, but the report on it sounds pretty good.

Wasn't able to record the show, but i see it's being repeated tonight after Raw, so i'll be viewing it for sure. From what i've read, it sounded like a pretty entertaining PPV, but i'll save my comments for after i've viewed it.

I've not watched the show yet. I Sky Plussed it last night and am just trying to watch it. The Sky "Temporary Fault" card popped up 11 minutes in and the signal didn't come back until 46 minutes. How the fuck does that happen in this day and age? I'm so annoyed.

You think you're annoyed try watching it live. Missed all of the Rey / RVD match which was apparently very good. Sky then showed a replay of a Liverpool Vs Leeds match from years ago and then a cricket classic program. During which on the telebar they changed the WWE Vs ECW bar to a Teleshopping bar so there was no sign that the show was going to return. Hopefully the same won't happen during One Night Stand.

Yeah I'm a Leeds fan so that wasn't so bad...

Anyway, as for the rest of the show, awesome viewing. Best. Commentary. Ever. A blockbuster, old-school Cactus Jack promo from Mick Foley. And Tazz and Lawler just stiffing the crap out of each other. It may not have had a lot of wrestling classics but for drama, conflict and build up to Sunday it was the best thing WWE has put out all year. It promoted a legit hatred between the "two" companies that exceeds what they did last year. It's still a worry that half the ECW guys are WWE guys, and not enough was done to establish lesser known (to current WWE fans) ECW talent like Tony Mamaluke and Justin Credible, but still a great show.

Having Sky+'d it, I got around to watching it last night.  Couldn't believe it when they lost the feed for 35 mins!
Missed Rey v RVD, plus Orton & Angle having a face-off in the ring and Mickie James v Jazz........

As for what WAS shown - great stuff........  Terry Funk was stiff hitting Foley at Foley's request..... hence the bruising around the eye when Foley was doing his segment.

Badly missed table spot by Dreamer & Edge, that could have resulted in a serious injury to Edge.  Fortunately it didn't!!  I'm actually siding with Edge & Foley in that little feud.

The Battle Royale's ending was excellently done.... the look on Show's face as he ripped off the Raw shirt was great, as was Angle's reaction.

Best commentary we've had in years too..... although a lot of it was fed to them by Vince.

Fantastic show. The commentary was absolutely fantastic with Tazz and Styles completely outclassing The King.

RVD Vs Rey was the match of the night. Psyched for ECW's rebirth now.

Oh Your God, a sporadic poster and good friend of mine, suffered an unfortunate taunt due to Sky this week. He has the normal subscription but for some reason, he received Sky Sports 3 this week. He was chuffed and couldn't wait to watch ECW Vs WWE until they switched it off just moments before the show.
