 Just had the shock of my life! Serioulsy!  I looked over at our chinchilla cage this arvo and saw that Floyd (we named her wrong, thought she was the male) was in her little enclosed sand bath (it's blue but you can see thorugh) which was odd because they're nocturnal.  And then I looked and saw these little legs scrabbling around! She'd only gone and had a baby!!!

The weird thing is, is that Pink (the male) died a few weeks back really suddendly, so we took Floyd to the vet to have a check up and also to see if she was preggers because she had ballooned in weight!  Anywhoo the vet said 'No she is definitely not pregnant'.  So either the Vet is wrong, or we have a Chinchilla messiah on our hands! 

I'll post some pics later on but at the mo she is cuddling into her mum and hiding!

To get an idea though, we have a smaller version of this!!  They are born with fluff and eyes wide open! So cute!

That is really cute, looks like it has a huge brain in that head yet at the same time looks so dumb.

I've been thinking about getting a pet but don't have time for a dog and hate cats.
Do they make good house pets, do they need a lot of looking after, how big do they get?

 They get to be about 8inches-12inches long (including tail), they bounce around a lot too so you need a big cage, but they are very easy to look after, live really long (15 years), and are really affectionate when they get used to you!  I'd really reccommend them as a pet, they're so affectionate!  Floyd likes to cuddle up to us, but beware they will chew ANYTHING! I left a blouse slightly too near to the cage and she pulled it in and ripped it to shreds in about half an hour!

 Hahaha I'd like to call her Pookie, but we are naming him/her Pink after her ever randy dad who passed away a couple months ago!  (We got their names the wrong way round when we first got them, their names are Pink and Floyd!)
