As it is a nice clear night and a brass monkey is sobbing by my door I thought I would try something I have not done before.

Jupiter

Orion (and a couple of aeroplanes sneaked in as well).

They have come out a bit darker once hosted than the originals.

I clicked Auto Smart Fix by error and actually quite like the effect.

Nice shots Sanchia - I'm always tempted to try those really long exposure night shots that show the moving night sky, but leaving the camera outside for 3 hours kind of puts me off...

but on the flip side I have managed to get a few more high-speed flash shots...

all shot with the A450, 70-210 Minolta AF F4-5.6 with a set of Kenko Extension tubes* - ISO 800 f22 with a Yongnuo 560 flash on lowest power setting above with diffuser.

*they're approx 3x the price of normal extension tubes (10x if you look at Ebay) but they retain the electronic connection between lens and camera allowing AF (not really needed) and (more importantly) aperture control.

And I went to our local cathedral, spent 3 on a photography permit - took 52 shots of which the following was the only one worth talking about, one shot no HDR.

[/url]

shot with the sony 18-55 kit lens, at f8 with a 1 second exposure.

Not the best night to experiment with a moon picture. I'm thinking if I plug my camera into my laptop I can probably get a better focus and less likelihood of movement.

Too much ambient light to really get a good picture but at least Ursa Major is visible. I've just noticed another plane has sneaked into the shot.

I've not tried tethered shooting (my sony doesn't have that feature AFAIK), but since I bought a shutter cable (cheap off amazon marketplace) it has really helped sharpen things up- reduces the minute wobble you get when shooting on a tripod, it's allowed me to use longer exposures and get fantastic sharpness (see the shot of the cathedral above)

I've been doing more mucking about indoors - cashed in my pennies collection after 2 years, bringing in a whopping 45 after coinstar took their cut, so splashed out on some new wineglasses, and at 60p each I can afford to break a few having fun (just not quite yet for the breaking.)

Quoting myself I know but I've just noticed I actually managed Mizar and Alcor which is something I didn't think I would get at that time (unless I waited to midnight when most of the streetlights go out).

Incidental I have found out an additional use for the ND filter in that apparently if you wish to take a picture of architecture when tourists get in the way you can slap on the filter do a 1 second or more exposure and the tourists no longer show (unless they are very sedentary). This could be useful as I do not like people in my pictures if I can avoid it.

good thing to know - the only other method I know of is to take two shots (so the tourists are in different places) and then use one as a mask which you can then use the eraser tool in Photoshop to take away

I'm still experimenting with HDR images and not getting anywhere very fast.

Can't remember if I ever posted these in here.

They're not the most beautiful or technically accomplished photos but I like them both because they both just ....happened.

This one was amusing because it was taken on my old camera which took AGES to take a photo after you pressed the shutter release. So the pigeon caught was completely unintentional.

And I like this one simply because of the colours and the fact all I had to do was aim the camera in any direction and it was a kaleidoscope of colour.

Ta.

It was Burano, Venice. The whole island is just full of these brightly coloured houses.

Fun with macro stuff; today I discovered that I can put extension tubes on my macro lens for added magnification

Thanks, after a period of a lack of motivation (owing to a lack of funds to go anywhere ) I've started to take my camera out each time I have a smoke - extension tubes, flash and a macro lens trying to get at least one good shot a day doing some bug hunting.

I would post one of them again, but wouldn't want to spam the thread with "look at me! Look at me!" any more than I do

Edit - that's what facebook is for!

Hmmm, if you're not posting them on here but FB instead I need to be your friend as that macro shot is great Would love to see more.

I'm hoping my trip to Barcelona next weekend will produce some great shots (as long as it doesn't rain as is currently being forecast )

That's a great photo. I love them trees and the whole effect gives quite an expressionist feel, especially as it becomes lighter at the top, giving the impression that the picture itself is fading away into the sky. Love it

All those lovely photos of landscapes and ceilings, and it's the tea and milk photo that grabs me the most

I've always liked photos of small everyday objects for some reason, I'll have to scour my hard drive and see if I have any of my own to show off.

Wow, Hobbitonlass some very lovely shots there, love the beach at night shot and the angles you got on that church ceiling and the twisted tree are excellent.

I've been taking a few bird shots recently, they're OK but I wish I had the cash for a decent telephoto lens.

Friendly Kookaburra

Regent Bower Bird

and I just mentioned leafy shots in another thread, so here's a couple

and a nice cat.

Love the depth of field in the second to last Hozay and the cat is lovely (looks like a British short hair)

Yeah I think that's the breed Hobbitonlass, he's a great little cat, the whole neighborhood loves him.
