Agreed. Especially the original series. But as you all know you can't really make a TV episode as a feature, because the idea will run out of steam after 60 minutes.

But I do hope we ditch the revenge/terrorist plotlines and go somewhere a wee bit different next.

quite a few of the trek movies were said to be merely 2 parters put on the big screen.
it did not hurt them to use that format.

They looked like two part episodes because they didnt have a huge budget.Insurrection especially looked and felt like a 2 part episode on the big screen so it did actually hurt them to use that format.

JJ's Star Trek had a very high budget and the film had an epic look.It is also the most successful Star Trek film ever at the box office. All indications are that Into Darkness will do even better.

IGN have given Star Trek Into Darkness 8 out of 10, and say that other than Pine, Quinto, Cumberbatch and Pegg the rest of the cast are relegated to in-jokes, but it's a fun action-heavy film that proves that the last movie wasn't a fluke.

I've read two reviews, and both make mention that there is a twist regarding Harrison's identity. So, as more details come in from the Oz Premiere and press screenings, I'd expect that spoiler to hit in the next day or so, Iron Man 3 style. Tread carefully people!

They've been doing the rounds for over a week now, you'd do well to avoid em, I wish I had.

I'm completely abstaining from reviews of this, and Iron Man 3, the latter of which now has some pretty monstrous spoilers appearing on forums...

Holy fuck... I swear, I'm no spoiler junkie but neither am I too fussed when they drop, but that's two movies (IM3 and STID) having major spoilers dumped onto message boards in the last week or so with no warning. I'll say it again, if you want to stay spoiler free, now is the time to stay away, particularly the SHH forums! Jesus fucking wept.

Am I alone in thinking that the 'hi res image' the link leads to looks more like something from a video game cutscene from a decade ago? It looks like an unfinished, or poorly rendered, CG model rather than anything convincing. (I accept that the image is genuine, but am not impressed with the contents.)

A quick question...a long time ago on this thread, while people were wondering if/hoping not Khan would feature in the sequel I mused a potentially interesting to direction to go in would be a Wrath of Kirk scenario, with him seeking vengeance after some atrocities, anger in him leading his crew to question his judgement and be placed in danger by his actions.

Is the new film anything like that much of a 'wrath of' scenario? Not saying anything dodgy here if it is, naturally, coincidences abound, eg, I've previously mused that I wanted a more psychologically realistic Batman with 'how it might really feel/be' approach and that after die another day, I wanted James Bond' to be treated as a mask and to see what was under that mask. It's been a good few years for getting exactly what I wanted to see from the bigger films

Batman Begins is brilliant, for me, the second best superhero film ever, after Superman: The Movie. However, even though both are "realistic" to an extent, it still is fantasy and entertainment. It can't be real!

As for Bond, I agree DAD was a step too far. However, I would rather have seen a true Bond origin story... from his Eton expulsion to Fettes... to the death of his parents and then see some WW2 action with Bond rising up the ranks of the Royal Navy to become Commander before ending with his transfer to the 00 section.

Bond the character is simple. He is a man with nothing to live for so he believes in Carpe Diem and indeed needs the excitement of his job to get him through. But is he unquestionably loyal to Queen and Country. Forgotten or traditional ideals I think.

I don't really think the Craig films have added really that much to the character that we didn't know already. They kept trying with Brosnan to give Bond more backstory (006, Paris Carver etc) and I always felt that it seemed a bit much.

Bond's backstory is in the Fleming books and should remain so, unless adapted into the movies, which to be fair Casino Royale did try with the inclusion of Vesper Lynd - the girl who broke Bond's heart.

Anyway, back to Star Trek!

I am looking forward to it more than ever now that I know a wee bit more of what is potentially going on. I think I may give the forum a miss for a while also as I have enough spoilers to sustain me!

Well said. In my defence it wasn't my copy. I just happened upon it and thought I'd have a quick look as it was at that page anyway. I was not happy.

Guys, i currently live in a country with no english speaking cinema so please no spoilers if you reply to my message as i wont see it for a while, ive been keeping an eye on star trek into darkness box office and it appears to be not performing near as close as estimates. I find this shocking, the first star trek was awesome and did well and this looks even bigger and better and has got great reviews. It should be raking in the box office?
