Agreed. I think JJ is surely too clever to go over old stories.

We also have to follow the Vulcans in this one to see what happens. Perhaps some Israeli/Moses type stuff as they look for the promised land?

But give us a full on Klingon War. That would be cool.

watched extras on the tng movie blu ray set to do with the series' villains.
maybe the next movie doesn't need a villain as such.
many of the tv eps have had a crisis where circumstances bring out the best and worst in people, even crewmembers.

I'm very interested to see what Cumberbatch's character is like. Black hair is a good start.

zoe handled being a more dynamic version of uhura in the last movie and hope they continue the relationship with spock in this new film.

Difference of opinion on whether Saldana can handle anything other than undressing on screen, fair enough.

But the character?

It's never been the most progressive of shows, but it wasn't so much what she had to do but the fact people were faffing on about no man becoming no-one in a film where the female characters seemed to be either mother, girlfriend or room-mate slut, just there to give birth to the men, die as a plot point or subordinately run around after her boyfriend with no thought other than that in her little featherhead. That really stuck in the craw. Stand-out annoyances in a film I thought was pretty poor anyway.

Although I agree that the film does play to certain character cliches,I do think though that it was a very fun film irespective of those cliches.
And hopefully the second J.J Abrams Star Trek builds on from the solid offering the first one had.

I completely agree with you elab. She comes across as a right floozy in my opinion who doesn't seem to be capable of doing anything else other than pose. I was actually embarrassed for her and thought she really let down the character.

But that more script based?
Very little to do with her acting credentials.
But other than ST I have not seen her in anything else so I have little to base her talents on.

It's why I split it into both. I've seen a bit too much of her pretty bad CV and she's not impressed me with competence.

Apart from that, the character creation was iditoically regressive and a decent actress couldn't have saved it, IMO.

Having looked through Zoes Filmography I have to say she's been in some pretty amazing films...(lol).
To be fair to her who else was going to play her role?
