I don't think they mean Dark Knight in tone, but rather scale. I dearly hope it isn't dark and stuff.

there need to be an overall theme to next film.

'undiscovered country' had the klingons and federation wrestling with finally coming together in peace for instance.

I hope it has more about it than the first, I understand it needed to establish the charactors and how the came to the federation, so hopefully this will have a kick ass story to it to back up a good ensemble.

No he shouldn't.

The only real problem I had with Abrams' reboot was that it felt it necessary to have Nimoy appear via some wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey nonsense in order to apppease the exisitng fanbase. It should have just been a straight reboot. It gave us some nice scenes but the film could have worked just as well without him.. Blowing up Vulcan was all that was needed to say all bets are off and they could have had Nero do that for some reason other than revenge for the failure to save his own world. There's just no need to get Shatner involved just as there really was no need to have Nimoy. It would just be an uncessary sop to the old school hardcore.

I agree The Shat shoud not appear in the new film. The new crew are established now and are quite capable of carrying a movie by themselves.Shatners time on Trek is long over, its time for us to look forward to the new adventures of Pines crew and forget about the old series.

Keep Shatner away, the man is simply a parody of himself these days.

Of course Shatner should be in the next Star Trek film.
He IS the one and only...Captain James T. Kirk.

No Shat = No Star Trek.

I'm still pissed he wasn't in the last one.

I'd say no to him being in it because he'd just try and make the film all about him, whereas we have a talented group of people who did a fantastic reboot. Nimoy worked because he's a much more reserved person so acted it as if it was an acting role, whereas I could see Shatner trying to take all the limelight and it not being very good. That being said it could be worth it.

Shatner IS Kirk.

Kirk is the best Captain.

Shatner is Star Trek!

I think that Shatner should appear as the villain in a future film - maybe with a Spocks Beard type of affair!

I also think that Shatner should give us a rendition of his "Rocket Man" performance. For old times sake you understand!

No to Shatner appearing in the next or any other Trek features.his time on the franchise ended in 1994 with Kirks death in Star Trek:Generations. The last movie was a great restart for the series and this new cast are more than capable of carrying a movie without the old guard.Bring it on!
