I was good and did an eastenders search and the only thread that came up was one titled how shit is eastenders?

I've recently gotten back into it, mainly now that grant's back, he's had a personality transplant I find it much more interesting. i just have a few things to say:

How annoying is ben....I mean really!

Who else reckons Jake and  Ruby are gonna get it together at some point in the future? How old is jake? how old is ruby? she looks 2!

Who else really wants them to bring back the greek family as series regulars?

Who ese wishes they would just kill sharons character off so we never have to see her in her ever present black blazer and hear her annoying faux husky voice ever again? I mean dennis was the only fittie in the square and they destroyed his character by making him have an affair with his sister, later marrying her, and having him be all happy and shit!

and little mo, they finally ran out of storylines and decided to make her baby annoying and loud a couple of years after it was born? and don't get me started on her hair....and as if that fit doctor would ever go for little mo!

I'm with you on little Mo's hair, what a disaster, still she's leaving soon, don't think she'll be running off with the dishy doctor.

Eastenders is the only soap I watch (except River City) regularly but recently i've not cared so much if i've missed an episode. I did quite like their recent Rear Window "tribute" with Dot.

I really don't get the attraction with Grant, it puzzles me...

oh no, he's a walking neanderthal, but an entertaining character nonetheless....but come on, if it came down to it and you HAD to choose Ian or Grant? He is the lesser of two evils!

It's got really good at the moment now Grant's back and I like the storyline with Phil trying to be Ben's dad. It's good to see a different side to him.
I miss Dennis as well! I wish he wasn't killed off so then maybe he could back. I hope Alfie does I miss him too!

yeah Im not a fan of his, and shouldn't he have a south african accent? I like Grant's daughter Courtney she cracks me up. Have to say it's got better with Grant and Phil back, but goodness I wish they would get rid of Ruby, one of the worst actresses to grace the screen. Stalla by the way Ruby is 17.

!!! SPOILER !!!

Erm, yep - she's disappearing off with the doc pretty soon........

Hasn't Ian had his day yet??  20 years of the same whining and moaning character.... doing my head in.

Ruby looks like a shrew........

The introduction of the Wicks family has been a good move - apart from Deano.

Good to see Phil & Grant with changes of attitude too.  Ben's irritating, but I think it's probably a pretty genuine replication of a kid who's lost both his "parents" and been moved to a different country.

Can't stand Bert........

Have to admit that I've met Kara Tointon who plays Dawn..... not at all like the character.  Got a good pic with her somewhere too!

This is the problem with it; the characters have selective amnesia & personality changes at the whim of the writers. Soaps arenít essential viewing for me as they usually just recycle the same old plots but change the names, if I do watch one itíll be Corrie, at least thereís a bit more consistency of character, its attempts at humour are less painful to watch & its not obsessed with crappy gangster characters.

I like the new characters except Carly, that girl can't act, she really annoys me. I like Deano and Kevin though.
I used to like Coranation Street but I can't stand it now, the characters are really unlikable and the storylines are boring. Eastenders has got lots better this year though, I wish they'd bring back Alfie though, I loved it when he worked at the Vic, those were the days!

Still mourning Dennis.

I do watch the show but do find it a little tedious sometimes.  They occasionally run out of ideas for the characters and there is a lull but eventually it picks up and there is a burst when you just have to watch it.

I am appalled at the writing for Bert's character it seems to me to be a southener's attitude to northern people.  Most northern people are friendly, helpful, rightfully proud of their heritage and not in your face rude and opinionated like Bert.

I would like to see some new characters, perhaps someone with intelligence!!  The writers also seem to have a down on people who are intelligent and their characters are nearly always objectionable in some way.  Look at the hard time their giving Sonia as she tries to better herself.  The only character who went to college is banished to America never to be seen again. Okay you have the Doc but how wet is he.

I'd like to see some more hot blokes, there is no one to lust after now Dennis is gone, also I like to see some genuine acting,  Like when Joe lost it.  That had it all, great looking man, huge angst and genuine drama.

What actually happened at the end? I missed it.

The new Wicks family are crap though, Phil Daniels aside. The other two are piss poor actors, if you can call them that.

I'm with you concerning Bert. I think it's a pretty poor presentation of a 'northerner'. I haven't met a single northerner who is like Bert, and living up here I meet quite a few!

And which Joe are we talking about?
Do you mean Paul Nicholls' character Joe?

Yeah Paul Nicholls character.  He may not have  been particularly attractive but I found his descent into the disturbed mental state really compelling.  Kinda fascinatingly horrific.

I'm a great lover of Shakespears's tragedies and it did smack of those flawed characters that you get in those.

Yeah, I thought he played the character really well.
Just had to check, the only Joe I could think of at first was the new guy who- for some reason unknown to the rest of us- married Pauline Fowler

I watch this pretty regularly too.

I don't like the new Wicks family characters at  all. Deano is ok, but the father and daughter, are just terrible, as is Burt. Get rid of them and bring Alfie and Kat back.

Jane has gone from being slightly matronly, too looking far to glam to be working in that greasy spoon with boring old Ian.

As for Grant, he just reminds me of a slug...

I agree with you on the Bert front - his personality is really annoying, but for me its his tramps r us look combined with a voice attempting to break the record for how low can you go that does my head in. You will know if they ever get me in as a scriptwriter, the samuri scot monks from dr who will mysteriously turn up in the square and have at it.

I agree. Its getting pretty old stuff. I dont think it has been a great show in a long time though. The characters are are most of the time arguing and having a bad time and it gets a bit tired and depressing. They could do with adding some comedy imo. But I do think the show is decent entertainment and a lot better than some of the crap we get on TV.

If I had started this thread I would have put the title "Eastenders" and my post would have consisted entirely of two words. Those words being "Is Shit."
However if you were to draw me into an argument I would suggest that EastEnders is looking rather like the last days of Brookside these days. It's doomed I tell ye...doomed.

P.S. Bring back Zoe Slater or at least her Lycra tops.
