Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus!

This went down like a lead balloon last year, but I'll say it anyway.

Any horror stories from your youth of your parents making you dress up in Welsh costume when you were small? Are you making welsh cakes? Does anyone of this matter anymore??

Yay, dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus i bawb

My daughter's gone to school dressed as a traditional Welsh lady today. All my son had to wear to mark the occassion was a Welsh rugby shirt. One of them is getting a bum deal .

When I was a kid we could get away with just a leek pinned to our shirts. The girls always had to do the full dress though.

Yeah same here. A leek, daffodil or Welsh rugby shirt for the boys, full dress for the girls. Brilliant .

I have to say my daughter looked adorable in it this morning (I'm legally obliged to say that as her parent ) but I couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of it.

I think we need to see photos of young Impqueen in hat and cape. And I promise none of us will laugh.

No one needs to see those. Ever.

Still I do miss pretending to be Superman or whoever I thought I was bombing around the play yard.

You can't refuse to show humiliating pictures once you've acknowledged they exist.

If you do then I'll convince Matty to post the pictures of when he dressed up as Wonderwoman.

What he's really trying to say guys is that he's not a Very Manly Muppet, he's a Very Girly Muppet as he has his own Welsh girls's costume and he enjoys great (vicarious) satisfaction when his daughter wears hers. The land of my (crossdressing) fathers. I don't have children, so I'm safe.

I think you can sum up Wales with this Twin Town quip:

Rugby. Tom Jones. Male Voice Choirs. Shirley Bassey. Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwyllllantisiliogogogch. Snowdonia. Prince of Wales. Anthony Hopkins. Daffodils. Sheep. Sheep Lovers (meeehhh, not me). Coal. Slate Quarries. The Blaenau Ffestiniog Dinkey-Doo Miniature . I'd add "leeks" and "lava bread" to that as well.

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Sant hapus i bawb. Does dim gelynion fel y Sais! (well mainly from Essex)

Speaking of which, at least the relations are distant and not sexual.

Admitting your half-Welsh ought to have you renamed great_nadir . Although admittedly I'm fully Welsh so I'm way below. Yeah I've seen Taff Wars before. It is funny, reminded me of those "Naaayyytuuure valley baaar" adverts, clearly with a rougher spin though. Plus it's slightly "Twin Town in space"! I don't understand the whole "Taffy" business....."awight saaahn! Listen Taffy, look after me stoowl. Don't knick anyffing will 'ya!". Seeing as the River Tāf flows from the west in Pembrokeshire, rather than traverse the length and breadth of Wales. Just being pedantic .

Dude, seriously this one's funny:

Taffinator 2

"Oi roider! Off the fucking bike like!" . Nice touch with the Manics.

Here's another one. A great film from the late 70's. A rugby crowd go on a piss-up to Paris for the France v Wales grandslam decider game. Windsor Davies and Hugh Griffith!

Part one

Part two (and onwards)

I somehow find myself agreeing with the Tory over the 'foaming at the mouth' ultra-nationalist. There'll be people like her up here before long.

Diolch yn fawr.

Man, four years away from Wales and I still remember bits that I picked up helping in my son's Nursery.

He loves St David's Day - guaranteed non-uniform day if he's ever in school on his birthday.

Have I just not noticed it in the past, or has St David's Day been more of an event this year than before? The Welsh flag was flown at Downing Street this morning, Carwyn Jones was celebrating it on Wall Street, and even Google has a graphic celebrating it.
