bets  james bond since thunderball. no argument. new gritty feel to it, rather like ian flemings book. yes and finally a true english bond. personally, i think it should have been given 5 stars, nevermind. daniel craig is welcome to play as bond anyday.

I think it's the system, the only thing I have heard about Bond 22 is that according to Eva Green, the villian could be her old boyfriend, but nothing concrete! I think the only reason the film lacked some pace, was because so much of the film has to focus on the card game! Sturdy effort though, actually got me back into a franchise I felt was tired and turgid!

I was completly blown away I went into this film expecting the same over the top hi-jinks we had seen in recent Bond outings ie. invisble cars all that sorta shit! However I was plesently surprised I always knew Craig was going to make a good Bond after his brilliant turn in Matthew Vaughns Layer Cake but I never had any idea they would make Bond this dark. He's no longer a suave idiot who spouts cornie one liners, he's a thug a cold hearted killer minus the tux, minus the gadgets and all the other crap the bottom line is hes more believable as Bond he is very much in the same veign as Connery in his early outings.

The action like all James Bond movies is over the top yes but its new and refreshing the opening scene is easily the best scene of 06' and some of the scenes that follow are brilliant the air port chase and the Astin Marton flip were amazing and so well shot and again more believeable than the past hijinks ala Brosnon.

Another reason this movie abosoluetly blew me away was the stunning Eva Green and the way her character Vespa Lynd was no slouch in the brains department, she was smart and sexy and she knew it the scene chewing between her and Craig is amazing and she is a definite talent to watch in the future.

All in all Bond is back baby and with a big fucking bang despite the bloated ending this is the most enjoyable outing since Connerys Thunderball. 5 stars one of my favs of 06'

A superb film, very well produced however it was let down by gratuitous product placement. It'll need a lot of editing when it makes it to television, that's for sure.

4 stars aren't enough. This was one of the finest films of 2006, and if the Academy weren't so bent on political arthouse films, this would have been rightly up for the Best Picture award. This is a 5-star classic and one of the most enjoyable films ever!

Daniel Craig is a great actor, and he does for Bond what Christian Bale did for Batman. Fantastic!

What an awesome film!! It's filled with action and funny one liners! everything you want to see from a Bond movie!!
And Daniel Craig sure showed the people who knocked him that you can have a blonde bond, and that he is brilliant in it (without mentioning his hot body!!) Role on Bond 22!!

One line review:

OOoooooo black and white it must be gritty maybe it is more gritty, wait a second....now this is just the same old shit as before just without any gadgets....but wait!  A torture scene, oooo this is gritty....wait a second....now this is just the same old shit as before but with a defibrillator connected to a car ciggy lighter that the model like accountant doesn't even question using, is that the end? Jesus no, it's still going, is that the end? Jesus no it's still going, has it ended yet, arrrghhh, it's still going!

Best Bond by the preverbial and Craig was astonishing. The running sequence, like whoooaahhhh, the personal side gives us a far greater understanding of how Bond turns out the way he does (something I thought Tim Dalton tried to do, but was let down by the films (script particularly) generally).

The poker section was better then i was expecting, the tension did mount very well and Campbell kept the whole aspect very taught and you could almost feel yourself sitting at the table...................

Overall and this is perhaps the most surprising aspect for me, this was new era Bond, Connery could never have given Royale the same nous, Craig gets the balance spot on with his mixture of licensed killer and ladies man and overall "Im so way better than you" swagger to all the other guys in the room, but this is in the context of Modern Bond. On the other hand (i've tried to argue/dicsuss this elsewhere), I dont think Craig could have given Thunderball the BOHND, JAMESH BOHND thing that Connery did. So, what am I saying? you cant compare Craig to Connery, its not apples for apples, so to speak

Thoughts please

Emerging from the water into sunlight, with a breath of fresh air with an impressive package. No, not Daniel Craig, but the Bond franchise in general. Slightly over rated by most, but it is very pleasing to know that Bond can still kick it with Bourne when it comes to spy mivies. For me the film isn't about Craig its about the spectacular action sequences, the chase at the beginning will have most wide eyed and slack jawed in awe. And fair play for making a two day poker match interesting. The best thing about Casino Royale is that it pulls Bond out of the damp Brosnana era and makes it full of life again. All in all we have Vodka Martini, One liners, babes, gadgets and cars. The film ends with the famous "The names Bond..." And it definately is.

The World Of 007…But Not As We Know It - 25/2/2007 4:17:15 PM

The cars, the guns, the girls, the gadgets, the explosions, the martinis, the humour, the subtle straightening of the tie, the gravity-defying stunts, the plans for world domination…take everything you know about James Bond, and throw it out of the window. Start again.

-----------------------

You sit patiently in the cinema. Having eaten most of your popcorn during the trailers you feel a fantastic buzz inside you, and hairs stand on end as you hear the MGM lion roar. For the next two hours, you know that what you are about to witness, could possibly the greatest film ever made. You wait in anticipation for the familiar Monty Norman theme tune to burst out in surround sound, making your ears ring. You sit anxiously for the famous white circles to dart across the screen and for a man to walk swiftly across your view.

You wait…

Nothing.

Silence.

What you get is a beautiful shot of a snowy, midnight business district in Prague. Filmed strikingly black-and-white; this is the first sign that everything is about to change. In actual fact, change is the wrong word. As far as other Bond films are concerned, totally disregard anything that has come before this. This is the beginning of the world of 007.

Sit back and enjoy.

Acting and blasting his way through Europe, Africa and America is Daniel Craig; the surprising new choice for the role of the uber-cool British super-spy, beating a whole pile of other actors to become the newest double-0. Craig is intelligent, witty and sexy; he’s everything that a prefect spy should be. The new Bond not only excels in these areas, he also exceeds in two others. Firstly, he can act! Watching Craig bounce off other great actors and actresses – such as the legendary Dame Judy Dench – is a pleasure to watch! Exciting dialogue that is performed by world-class actors – this is what Bond should be about.

What else? Craig can fight. However, the fighting is realistic; no one-punch-ki

I'll admit that when i first heard they were making another Bond film, i visibly cringed and was subsequently asked "Are you sick?!" by my girlfriend. The answer....yes, yes i was! Sick with fear that the amazing Pierce Brosnan (fellow Irishman that he is) would have his record tarnished worse with this than it was with Die Another Day (starting to feel sick at the memory)! Imagine my surprise when I heard that PB would no longer be playing the part of JB! Surely, i thought, they've gone and found someone even worse then Roger Moore with which to viscerally blind me!!! WHAT??!!??!! Bond is blonde??!! Talk about surprised! To be honest though, I welcomed the fresh new approach to this legend that is the Bond franchise. And when I heard it was Daniel 'Layer Cake' Craig filling the considerable shoes and tuxedo, I felt hope swell up in my chest. Good story, good director and good actor (we'll forget about Tomb Raider)! All that remained was to see the finished product and determine whether or not Bond should have gone down with the plane at the end of Die Another Day! I got my popcorn, took my seat, and went through two big bags of M&Ms (peanut, of course). I remember coming out of the cinema after 2hrs and a half, dazed! Had I just witnessed the best incarnation of Bond EVER???!!!!! Surely my mind was playing tricks on me, the M&Ms must have been (dare I say it??!!) gone off?? No!! My health was, as the movie was, perfect (with the exception of a plot hole or two)!! Never in all the years that I have been a Bond fan have I connected so well with JB! I need say no more except, to all those who dismissed him purely because he was blonde..."The name's Bond, James Bond."

Good film but seriously overrated, particularly by the British media, There are many Bond films better than this one. Worth watching once but once only.

Brilliant. Bond the way he should be-bad ass, dangerous, unpredictable, and slightly thuggish. Craig reminds me a lot of his character in Layer Cake which added a certain thug aspect to the part. Didn't know when he was going to go off or tell a joke.

Casino Royale has, in my mind, reinvented the 'Bond' culture. It's difficult to say that past Bond films were enjoyable for me. Yes they are 'movie classics,' that are embedded in the film culture of today, but for me they are tedious. The same basic plot lines. The same basic characterizations. The same basic endings.

Casino Royale opens in black and white, which brings an air of elegance and classiness, two elements which are elementary to the stereotypical Bond that we know.
Realistic and gruesome fight scenes are to follow. Fights scenes that will leave popcorn hanging of the edge of your tongue. From that moment on, you realize, this is something different.

Bond's character in this film is based on one that has only just joined the secret service. He is rusty in his methods and unsure of his own ego. Craig creates a character who is unpredictable yet very slick and intelligent. This is a great way of keeping the audience wondering what he will do next, and if the ending of this film, will be as predictable as past Bonds.

Visually, this film obviously should not be compared with past ones. Breath grasping gun fights, heart-pounding yet realistic car crash scenes and eye soothing locations make this Bond exiting to just look at.

In conclusion, this new brutal Bond gives a sense of realism and heart to a character who has lost none of his over imagined villains, fight scenes, mind boggling gadgets or, of course, ways with women.
