To all those whinging about the time frame of the film- this extract from wikipedia sums it up nicely and if you continue to whinge about it , you're not worth arguing with- i.e stubborn/pathetic.

Casino Royale is a reboot of the series. The events in the film are not designed to precede Dr. No or any other Bond films--as in a prequel--rather they establish a new timeline and narrative framework. Numerous cellphone displays seen throughout the film (including one displaying the date July 6, 2006) indicate the majority of the film's action takes place in July and August 2006. It is also the first Bond film to make direct reference to the terrorist attacks of 9/11 (the previous Bond film, Die Another Day, made only an oblique reference). It is the first Bond film since Tomorrow Never Dies to provide explicit calendar dates for the film's time frame. In Tomorrow Never Dies one of Elliot Carver's newspapers is dated April 12, 1997.

Bond is back and more battered, bruised and leaner than ever. Daniel Craig was always going to face a tough challenge when he decided to take on the Bond role. The amount of Craig Bashers that sprouted across the Internet would have been enough to depress and shock anyone, but Craig stuck two fingers in the air to those fanboy haters who immediate disliked him and did it anyway.
Thank goodness Craig did because Bond is definitely back, he's a meaner leaner and more emotionally charged character than ever before.Craig is a truly wonderful character actor and manages to portray the inner emotional turmoil of Bond aswell as his outer charm. In Casino Royale we go back to the roots of Bond and learn how he rec'd his 007 status. The story is solid and although the script sometimes leave's you slightly perplexed at who's fighting who, no one can deny that the bone crunching action and earth shattering explosions and chases definitely make up for it. The fight scenes from start to finish are the highlight of the movie. Coordinated so superbly that each fight looks so realistic you can feel every punch in your stomach and every jab to the face. The set pieces are beautifully structured and every detail has been taken to ensure that nothing is overlooked.
Every character in Casino Royale has a purpose. Every line means something and is crucial to the rise of Bonds success as a 00 agent.
Eva Green is wonderful as Vesper Lynd and makes the perfect screen partner for Bond. They work so well together you'd truly think they were an item. The  emotional connections between James and Vesper is at the heart of the movie and keeps the emotionally charged story running. The films villan is the notorious terrorist banker  LeChiffre played brilliantly by Mads Mikkelson. He crys blood and with the slight scar across his eye plays a fitting tribute to past Bond villan's.
There are however a few flaws which dissapointed me. The product placement throughout the first half hour after the opening 'free running' sequence of the movie is damn right awful. Ford cars, Omega watches and Richard Branson. Its a shame they had to make the first half hour seem like a commercial.
The title sequence is rubbish, and seemed redundent and tacky. The song 'You No My Name' performed by Chris Cornell isn't that bad and does grow on you but its no 'Goldfinger'.

Overall Casino Royale is a great Bond film. It removes the cliche one liners and the sexism and replaces it with all round great action scenes and emotion. The power of this movie comes from the fight scenes and the quality character acting but the true star is Daniel Craig, who proves he's not just a straight forward actor but a fast paced, rage fuelled action hero.

I can't beleive a was naive enough to think Bond film would be any good! But what with all the good rewievs and praise from firends a decided to go and see it. BIG mistake!!!!! I can't believe a actually paid money to endure this amount of carp! It was boring and conventional. No suspense. It failed to grip me even for a second! I have ended up poking by poor boyfriend for most of the film, I was sooooooo bored. And obviously he loved it! Man have truly no taste!

Let's get one thing straight first. Sean Connery is the best Bond. I truly doubt there will be any Bond as iconic or suave in the future of cinema. And until I saw this film I honestly thought that Pierce Brosnan was always going to be number 2, but now I’m not so sure. I'm not going to make any judgments yet because this is only the first film but if they are half as good as this one is then we have another Bond who is totally suited to the role. He is quite possibly the best pure actor ever to take up the Tux. His subtlety and naturalistic acting have brought back the dignity that Die Another Day robbed of the franchise. It was also an attempt at cleaning up the dead weight the series has been carrying around for too long. Almost becoming a black comedy with the amount of Bond traditions it lampoons it clearly points the audience in the direction that the new Bond is going. And it is one of realism, killing for the newly appointed 007 is no longer as pedestrian as downing a martini, taking life affects him in the same way as we would expect to be affected by it; there is no room for futuristic gadgets or any kind of distraction from the fact that this is the here and now; and most importantly: Bond Bleeds, people talk about this being the first Bond film to feature rain but I also think (and I’m probably wrong) that this the first film in which Bond sheds blood. And its not just blood it's losing at poker, its feeling pain and emotion, its taking Bond out of the realm of myth and fantasy and it giving him flesh and bone, weaknesses and vulnerabilities. At long last Bond has become Human.

Casino Royale is THE best James Bond film in years. The stunts are stunning, the the effects are outstanding and for once, the acting is actually superb! The plot-line can actually be moving and the film has more emotional setting. Not as many gadgets as per usual, but it is a lot more like a great thriller in which you have to think. Daniel Craig is superb is the new Bond, along with his smart Bond girl. All in all, a fantastic, aw-inspiring piece of film.

I loved it.Daniel Craig was outstanding as bond as hes even replacing Pierce Brosnan as my second best bond (Sean Connery being first) and Eva Green was a super sexy bond girl.I also liked the new modern bond film style with mobile technoligy and a more seriuse story without daft gadgets like the invisible car in the disapointing die another day.Defintely the best bond film since Goldeneye.

I loved this film, best bond for a long time but could the product placements have been any more in your face. At times it seemed like a rolling ad for Omega (subtle not!), Ford (squeeze every model in big time!) and Sony Ericsson (close up on the phone now boys) and Sony Vaio and was Miami only served by Branson's Virgin? Stupid cameo from the bearded one .... does that count as product placement ? Great apart from this...... We dont need the products rammed down our throats - are the wall to wall ads not enough? Stop it Hollywood Stop it.....

Yes, the product placements were kind of obvious. But it's all part and parcel of the Bond movies in particular and they've been doing it for years.

Aston Martin has done very well out of that, and I haven't see anyone complaining about the unbridled product placement for this car marque since they first started doing it back in 1964!

Does DC make the grade?
Is the movie any good?
Well besides the fact that they tried to make it as anti-Bond as possible the movie is still very very good.I thought the Idea of leaving Q out was a bad one and the song was the worst. However I think the movie was that good that you could have Jack Black as JB and the movie would still be good.I am not saying Craig is bad just that this is not a suitable movie to judge his take on the character.

I don't think that you have actually seen the movie with clear eyes. If you are to see a movie wich have as good standard as this film you can't slaugther the movie. Obviously you are the one with bad taste not you buddy. But everyone has their taste but som moderation everybody has.

Ames

Ps: i'm totally fine with the "not liking bond-movies" but you've got to consider a movie by it's character not your taste.

Easily the best Bond since Goldeneye, and a very good film on it's own. Even though people will argue Bond is all about "escapism", I thought it worked really well as a more serious take on Bond. Daniel Craig was good as Bond, but like Lazenby it's hard to judge after one film. If the same director and scriptwriters stay on board I see a bright future though.
