If you can bear to buy them, Saturday's Daily Mail has David Attenborough's Life on Earth DVD and The Blue Planet comes along with The Mail on Sunday.

Far too good to be true, it's an episode from each series which continues for all the other series in the Life set (14 discs in total).  The Mon - Fri ones are WH Smiths pick-ups, but you can collect 8 tokens and have the lot sent for 5.99 instead.  That's a pretty good deal if you just want some tasters from the various series (or don't want to fork out 120 for the full set), as you don't have to keep going to Smiths and you'd spend over half of that on the extra 6 papers you'd need to buy.

I'm currently watching The Living Planet. Did you know that as a defence mechanism against ants, catapillers put this stinky treacle stuff on any attackers, and the ant gets so disorientated because of it he can't even walk straight. He then stumbles back home to the other ants, and they are so confused by his behaviour and smell that they see him as an intruder and kill him! Brilliant!

Yeah, somehow I didn't think it would be the whole Blue Planet. Been waiting for that to come down in price for ages. Anyway, they'd have to pay me to even hold the Daily Mail, so it's moot.

I would have thought a caterpillar could've just flattened an ant, but now I've got a vision of a caterpillar sitting on a leaf watching and laughing it's little green face off as the ant he's just turned into Dennis Hopper staggers into a bunch of redneck squaddie ants that have been left on guard outside the colony.  I can see why they do it now.

Haha. It's quite amazing. I should point out that this was in America or somewhere where the ants are bigger. About half the size in length of a 'pillar and about the same width.

What do you think would happen if you saved up a load of caterpillar juice and poured it over an anthill?  Ant Woodstock or mass mentalist carnage?

Got my In The Mood For Love DVD today. Haven't seen it before so am looking forward to that. I'm also still getting the Attenborough DVDs (got Blue Planet and Trials of Life so far). Blue Planet was amazing.

The Sunday Times tomorrow has Neil Jordan's excellent MONA LISA with Bob Hoskins and Michael Caine. A cracking British gangster film with Hoskins proving once again what a superb actor he is with the right material.
