What a let-down, I really got suckered buy the hype which I almost never ever do. This is a 90 minute prick-tease of a film. the first half is no better than 'An American Werewolf in Paris' and the second half is a sub-standard 'Saw'. Eli Roth is a shameless self-publicist, probably the only thing for which I admire him for. 'Hostel' was a huge disappointment, it's story thin, plotting and pace workmanlike and performances are cardboard. The long anticipated second half is a major let-down. There's is absolutely nothing suspenseful, gory or shocking to see. His camera wimps out on every promised close up, the set-pieces are dull and badly paced. It is a complete let-down I truly feel cheated out of my £13. 'The Hills Have Eyes' remake was far superior and delivered on it's promises of tension and horror and I wish I'd bought that instead. Obviously I'm not alone, there are quite a few dud reviews here. I rate 'Saw' above this, and it in itself was merely average. Cannot believe this got so much hype when 'Land of the Dead' flopped. It's an infinitely better film, made by a 63 year old for God's sake!!! dj vivace - Eli Roth hasn't pushed any boundaries at all. Putting aside the true gore masters - Romero, Gordon, Argento etc. Other mainstream movies have already been there with none of the hype - The Descent, DOTD remake, Saw, Saw 2. Eli Roth is just a showboater with a big mouth. That he has been apprenticed by Quentin Tarantino is no small surprise.
