Thanks for this, reminds me of the excitement at the time the movie first came out. If the producers had kept Keaton and dumped Shumacher, rather than the other way round, we might have had 'The Dark Knight' years earlier! Also, MK would be the right age for 'Dark Knight Returns' around now...

More of these please. I didn't regularly buy Empire until about '93/'94. So articles from these earlier issues are definite reads.

Given that this appears to be an actual scan (although reformatted) from a 1989 magazine, is it *just possible* you're mistaken? (sad smiley face)

The two photos mentioned ARE from 'Returns'. The bat symbol on the armour is different and you can clearly see the top of the more armour like chest piece from the second version of the suit in one of the shots.

It is an achievement that a scanned article from 1989 would have pictures from a film made three years later.

Nope, definitely not mistaken. The suits are extremely different, even down to the bat symbol redesign as Belisarius0365 pointed out.

Bob Kane did not create Batman alone. http://comicsalliance.com/batman-co-creator-bill-finger-family-not-all-good-with-dc-comics/
