Jim Broadbent as Godfrey is genius.

Appart from Broadbent, none of those are really a fit for the characters... and even Broadbents a bit of a stretch.

Wouldn't consider Blake Harrison or Martin Freeman right for those parts.

I'll go for...

Lance-Corporal Jack Jones = Gary Oldman, with aged makeup like the original actor had,

Private James Frazer = Billy Connolly,

Private Joe Walker = Michael Fassbender (just getting flashbacks to when he first appears in Inglorious Basterds),

Private Charles Godfrey = Timothy West,

Private Frank Pike = Daniel Radcliffe,

ARP Warden William Hodges = ...hmm that's a tough one. I would've said Bob Hoskins if he hadn't retired, but maybe a left field Ben Kingsley,

Anthony Hopkins or Michael Gambon would've been a good Manwaring too.

Broadbent for Godfrey is the only one of these that made me say "yes!". Frazer HAS to be played by a Scot - John Hannah would get my vote (assuming Capaldi is too busy off in his Tardis). McKenzie Crook for Pike, Jude Law for Walker.

...actually would've been perfect for Hodges. Funny you should mention that today Missinglink101 since it's just been announced he died. Very sad news.

Yeah, I was shocked to find that out so soon after suggesting that.

Shows how much his career prevailed in peoples minds right up to the end though.

David Jason as Jones - it was apparently between him & Clive Dunn first time round, & how about about Ian Lavender as Godfrey. Billy Connolly as Fraser ?

Not sure on Freeman, the rest could work but maybe not the best. Some great shouts in the comments though! Capaldi as Frazer could be a great version and David Mitchell as the Vicar is inspired! It depends on what they want to do with the films I guess.

Daniel Mays for Walker every time. He's got "cheeky cockney chappy" nailed. I'd go with Toby Jones for Godfrey and Bill Nighy for Sergeant Wilson.
