I'm looking for recommendations for good period horror movies. I love The Conjuring and just recently watched Woman in Black, From Hell and The Wolfman (2010). I have The Awakening lined up and am about to order The Others. Can anyone recommend any more please? I am hooked on the atmosphere of them.

You should try to check out THE DEVILS by Ken Russell. You'll either love it or hate it.Been meaning to re-watch it.

Devil's Backbone would be a obvious route and ,hell, you can even throw Pans Labyrinth in there to.

Pan's Labyrinth is a good one, i really liked that movie. It seems to blend a few genres very well. Not seen Devil's Backbone so will have to give that a look. Isn't The Devil's a bit arty? Not too sure about that one but might have to check it out.

Devil's Backbone is a great ghost story so depends on what you want. I was going to say Shutter Island but it's more of a thriller, and perhaps Bram Stoker's Dracula, but it's more of a comedy.

Good call on Shutter Island, part horror movie at least. I could never get into Bram Stoker's Dracula really.

Yeah,Devil's Backbone is more of a great ghost drama than a typical Horror.

Trying to think of more.

Edit:
I would say Crono's,but that's not really period.

I'm ashamed to say that it took me a few minutes to figure out why CARRIE is regarded as a 'period' movie...

Damn you beat me to it

And me - as soon as I saw the title, the immature 10 year old in me just let a sly smile loose.

In all seriousness, I would recommend The Others (2001). Set post World War 2, it is a fairly chilling story filled with bountiful period references/set design/gubbins.

Check out The Haunting (Robert Wise) if you haven't already. A lesson in atmosphere and one of the creepiest horror movies I've seen.

The Innocents, Ravenous, Witchfinder General, Black Sunday, Shogun's Joy of Torture, Kwaidan* and mattyb's mum sex tape (considered by historians to be the first porno and also more terrifying then The Exorcist)?

*and you get four stories in it, four! Ain't that a bargain.

Good suggestions, thanks, the last one sounds good.

Deathwatch is a nice little horror film set in the trenches of World War I (starring Andy Serkis as a psycho soldier and Jamie Bell).
