This has to be one of the most bizarre casting choices I have ever heard! I had to check it was not April after I read it. I don't doubt his acting chops but... Seriously, the Thing?!! Still don't get the genetics behind a black Johnny Storm and a white Sue Storm... Unless one is adopted I guess. Weird choices all round in my opinion though.

They all seem a bit young for the roles (although that could just be me getting old!)

I just hope this isn't another origin story flick.

Someone better let the VFX team know they'll be picking up ALL the slack in post!! Billy Elliot...the Thing....aye, ok. AND given the gender swap rumours can we expect Kristen Stewart as Doctor Doom?

He did loads of it for Tin Tin. And he's a good actor, so smart choice, and more importantly, an interesting choice. With superhero overkill in full swing, you've got to be different to stand out, I think.

Ha ha!! What an absolute joke! Fox have no idea what they're doing, no idea what they have and no idea of how to make this super-team good. They're doing a bang up job of destroying yet another potential superhero franchise. This film is already shit and they haven't even started filming yet. Fox, do the decent thing and give the rights back to Marvel; the only people who know how to treat THEIR OWN creations.

C'mon... am all for slightly out there casting but this looks a bit like project x crossed with the fantastic four. The plot will no doubt be the human torch holds a killer party at his parents house which gets out of control and its up to the super team to get it back in shape! Considering chronicle was one of the worst movies I have seen the past few years, this doesn't seem to be shaping up well at all... now just waiting for miley cyrus to be cast as victoria von Doom!

i honestly don't understand how josh trank who is obviously a talented up and comer would be this outlandish with his casting choices..jamie bell as ben grimm would be a huge mistake he would be a better reed richards,i've no qualms with michael b jordan playing johnny storm except for the shft that would be needed in either his origin story or that of sue storm i feel that fox are messing this one up big tme at the min and that they need to take a step back and really make sure that this movie isn't a piece of shit because f this fails it would be a massive wrench n the cog of their budding self styled superhero miniverse.

Previous castings that Fanboys initially dismissed include Michael Keaton as Batman, Heath Ledger as The Joker, Daniel Craig as Bond, Robert Downey Junior as Iron Man (WTF Fanboys?!) and Anne Hathaway as Catwoman ... all of which smashed it. So now we currently have Ben Affleck, Jessie Eisenberg and Jamie Bell waiting to prove that, once again, Fanboys don't know anything about filmmaking other than what the characters look like in a comic book. That's not much is it?

Yeah! How dare they tinker with the appearance of a fictional character who doesn't actually exist and can therefore look like anyone?! I am tired of black actors getting roles as fictional characters who, being fictional, could be portrayed as either black or white! It's political correctness gone MAD I tell you! MAD!!!

If we can make Andy Serkis King Kong then we can make Jamie Bell The Thing. It'll be all mo-cap.

I agree, I too think they all seem a tad young. I wasn't a fan if the ultimate universe version of the fantastic four. And prefer the original source. I also kinda hoped they wouldn't do an orgin movie and just put us straight in to an adventure of the fantastic four. But we shall see hot it pans out. I will check it out none the less

Or do these four look like they'd suit the casting of Runaways rather than Fantastic Four?
Interesting bit of info, Jamie Bell was cast because according to the film's casting staff "they found no other suitable candidates" - that's right, not because he's right for the role, but because no-one else was even remotely good enough. You see, this is the problem when a studio is making (or remaking) a film not because they want a good adaptation, but so they don't have to hand back the rights to Marvel who would know what to do this material.
This isn't moviemaking by comitee, this is moviemaking by accountants!

Given how appallingly shite the other two FF films were; I'm willing to give anything ago to be honest and, whilst I know very little about the other two casting choices, both Bell and Jordan are solid good actors. I also loved Chronicle so I am actually quite excited about this!!

Look at me agreeing with some casting choices for a comic book adaptation...fuck...I feel ill...

Oh dear God,this sounds like an absolute disaster! For one thing, now don't get me wrong, what on earth have we got a black Johnny Storm, for? He's supposed to be a blonde blue eyed boy! And if he's black, why isn't his sister,Sue Storm?
The second dreadful bit of casting has to be Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm aka The Thing. While there is little doubt Mr.Bell is a good actor,he's hardly the right choice for The Thing!
It would appear that again this once iconic comic book is given the poor relation treatment! Would Marvel have done this to Spider-man or Iron man? Or indeed the Avengers?
A very disappointing state of affairs.

Why? As a previous poster eluded too, if they can make Andy Serkis a giant Gorilla why can't they make Jamie Bell The Thing?

Ultimates, schmultimates. Tim Story’s 2 films were far from perfect but now it looks like we’re going to end up with another steaming great pile…..
Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm? Okaaaay…….. I’ll buy a ticket to watch a motion capture Thing and some proper Kirby tech – but “ultimately” all the sfx and pretty young faces in the world won’t save this film if the script is rubbish. Marvel need to get these characters back NOW!!!!!!.

Fantastic Four was 2/5 stars. ROTSS was an improvement, but only an average 3/5 stars. If there was one thing those films did well it was the casting. For the reboot it seems a lot like FF 90210. You'd think Fox would bother getting a larger actor to play Ben Grimm since a burly man in a mo-cap suit would cost less to render into SFX. I cautiously wait for set photos/clips from the film.

and I have faith in Josh Trank... 20th Century Fox on the other hand have a solid record of crapping on Marvel fans and sticking their collective 'paint by numbers' approach to film making down directors (and in turn our) throats. Granted, The Wolverine was a much needed step in the right direction after the abysmal, I say abysmal (stop defending it!!!) Origins: Wolverine which ruined a promising career for another talented up and coming director, Gavin Hood, whom made the excellent Tsotsi, so there can be no telling where this FF movie will fall. I wait with bated breath.

Making the Fantastic Four a bunch of mid to late twenty somethins? Bad Idea! Bad Idea! Bad Idea! Kate Mara could work, but everyone else is a bad idea! If I was doing the casting. I would eye Edward Norton As Mr. Fantastic. Charlzie Theron as The Invisible woman. Ryan Kwanten as the human torch. I wouldn't know who I want to be The Thing, But I'm just throwing out my opinion.

The reason I'm not happy with this casting is more complicated than just about the race of an actor.

The Fantastic Four are a family of superheroes, that aspect of the FF was completely mishandled in the previous films. In the original comics Reed and Sue's relationship is fairly straight forward, Sue is Reed's girlfriend. Sue and Johnny's relationship is much more interesting and one of my favourite aspects of the comics, they are brother and sister but Sue is also a mother figure to the immature Johnny. Reed is the leader of the team but not really a father figure to Johnny, he's too focused on his work. I think explaining that Johnny is adopted is a fracture too many in an already fractured family, now no-one in the team/family is actually blood related. If this was an animated series or video game adaptation then the makers wouldn't even have considered making Johnny Storm anything other than a white blonde guy to look like his sister.

Also I really can't see gruff rough Ben Grimm in Jamie Bell. Maybe once he's a mo-capped CG Thing it'll be ok but Ben Grimm he is not.

After all the mistakes and stupid changes the previous films made this is a chance to make a faithful better version, not make a different set of mistakes and stupid changes.

Johnny Storm and Sue Storm have to remain brother and sister. HAVE TO. So how the hell are you going to explain the parentage on this one? Both white or both black is fine but come on Fox!!! I suppose this is what they call positive discrimination. Well done USA. Well done.

On a side note; Kate Mara Mahuminahuminahuminahuminahuminahuminahumina....

In Josh Tranks hands this will be great - if the story done right be it origin or whatever!!

Glad to see there have been no dodgy jokes as to why "The Human Torch was denied a bankloan"!?!

The casting reads like a PR company's proposal! Right - kids love superheroes and young people, let's put that together. Wait! They're meant to be a family? That doesn't work for our marketing department! We've already started designing toys for our fast food chains. Also, someone mentioned on this boards that The Wolverine was a step in the right direction! Of what? Bad scriptwriting! Even Hugh Jackman admitted recently that it wasn't as good as he hoped! 20th Century Fox have always dropped the ball on comic book adaptations.

If that's the cast list, then this casting is a load of nonsense. The human Torch CANNOT be black. He is and always has been a WHITE CHARACTER. Totally stinks of a excuse for political correctness.
