Cannot get excited about these 3 movies, but I wish him well, still think The Abyss is his best movie by miles, but that's just me!

I can shoot 4k at a high frame rate on my gopro and can probably make a better film for a fraction of the price

for all I care. He could shoot it in 24K with the images sent via wi-fi directly into my fucking eyeballs.

AS LONG AS HE HAS A DECENT SCRIPT

but he won't so it's all for not

C'mon i mean "yeah i'll shoot in 4k and push the envelope" f***ing webseries for youtube are shooting in 4k, and the fact that avatar was to say the most a decent film, does not get me hyped for the sequels. Films should be about telling a good story. Not ticket-selling gimmicks.

I think 4k is fine, but HFR is not so good for CGI-heavy films, if the Hobbit is anything to go by. The problem is that in making the screen you're looking at more life-like, you're also highlighting the less life-like qualities of the picture. Even when you're not talking about, trolls, dragons or blue aliens, there is still something obviously fake about a totally computer generated environment to the trained eye, and this fakeness somehow becomes more obvious at a higher frame rate.

For now, until CGI ups it's game, I'd say leave HFR for non-sci-fi/fantasy... or at least films with in-camera effects only (do they still get made?).

Apparently it's something to do with getting the processing speed of the brain wrong - according to some technical brain people when the Hobbit came out. I'll never step into an HFR screen again - awful experience.

^ This. I look back at films that are only a couple of years old that had state of the art CGI when they came out, and now, with how graphics are advancing, it becomes even more blatently obvious which bits are cgi'd and on a greenscreen and which aren't.

Same with why 3D glasses give a lot of people headaches. Your making the brain think its focused on a point at a different distance to what it is, so the discrepancy start to cause eyestrain amoungst other things.

It's theatres projecting at 4K that's new. Where have you been, Empire? You can shoot 4K on a DSLR nowadays.

Avatar, aside from a few scenes, was derivative and unoriginal CG snoozefest stuff. Three more films, wow we will really be asleep. 4K, like the others here said, such a gimmick, and it does makes things too obviously not real, and it frankly does not matter at all, and it does not Cameron's dull characters and predictable scripts any better.

We've been shooting films in 4k even 5k for YEARS now.

Is this just news because 4K TVs are suddenly popular?
