Evil Dead 2 was released in 1987. So 1987 wins.

So what we've learned from this thread is that basically one can pick any year and claim it was the greatest by virtue of a small list.

Struggling to think of a better way of assessing how good a year was for film other than looking at the best films that were released in that year. But always nice for irrelevant input in any thread.

Keep your knickers on. I've nothing against a good list. Lists can be fun. But they do not prove that any one year was better than another. And your idea about what constitutes a particular year's "best films" may differ somewhat from others.

Besides, everyone knows the best year was 1985.

Oh, and 1986. And 1975 was bloody good. And so was 1973.

74 was different level as well. Basically just the 70s.

Well I've seen Memento listed as 2001 maybe that was the release date rather than when it was made. The best film on the list was Muholland Drive actually

I always go by the UK release date which was October 2000 for Memento (and January 2002 for Mulholland Drive...

It's very subjective, but IMO, no, 199 was nowhere near the best year for film. As said elsewhere in this topic, not even the best of the decade, that goes to 1995.
