Stallone should have stuck with his first instinct...

I hope I look as paunchy as Stallone when I'm his age.

I agree with everything in the review. It does take forever to get in the ring and you never care about any of the characters, especially De Niro's. All that business with his son just came across as cliched, corny and unbelievable. Stallone was pleasingly relaxed and actually gives a performance. De Niro has done 125 movies and it shows, there's zero interest or energy from him, he looks like he doesn't want to be there. Only when he's with Stallone does De Niro seem to make any effort. The fight at the end is a let-down and has none of the intensity of Raging Bull or Rocky. Several things don't make sense either, if the boxers have a clip that's "gone viral" on YouTube with a million hits, how come no one shows up at the press conference? Also, why is Stallone soaking his fists in vinegar/horse piss when he'll be wearing gloves in the ring? He's not a bare knuckle boxer. Not funny enough to be a comedy, not serious enough to be a drama and not interesting enough to be a good movie.

I'm not sure why everyone is trashing this movie, I enjoyed every minute of it! I thought it was consistently funny throughout and the final fight was really engaging. Stallone still looks the part of a boxer, and yes Di Nero looks ropey, but he's meant to. Both me and my mate came out of the screening with big smiles on our faces, and I overheard another group of people saying how good they thought it was too. I recommend it!
