Oh lord, that's terrible.

I hate all those articles stating it's a good opening because it's much bigger than TASM's first weekend...

I Think it will be higher, 70-ish?

Curious about the total BO it will end up making. Mixed reviews are coming in and there's x-men the week after..

93.5 estimate. Did not expect that.

Hahaha.

I'm currently really interesting on the impact that Godzilla and DOFP will have on each other. Godzilla could go for a 240m if DOFP doesn't overperform. DOFP could go for a 240m if Godzilla doesn't overperform. Both of them hitting that number seems quite unlikely to me.

I think Godzilla will suffer a lot from X-men's opening.

Oh and really starting to believe Guardians of the Galaxy could hit the 1b this summer. With the right marketing off course.

Agree with 'zilla, though I think Guardians will do surprisingly poorly..

Edit: though saying that... will Godzilla fair better than X-Men in the asian markets...?

It depends as Asian markets, especially the Japanese one, are really unpredictable. Pacific Rim only did ok in Japan and The Wolverine went ignored and I don't know how big the X-Men franchise is in China.

Godzilla's last Toho outing was a flop, though it was also shit and released on the same weekend with Howl's Moving Castle in Japan.

Given how well Godzilla is doing, i wouldnt be surprised if it eats into X Men: DOFP box office.

This will be the THIRD Marvel movie in as many months and audiences may be getting a little tired of them given that Amazing Spider Man 2 slightly underperformed.

Im sure DOFP will do well but maybe nowhere near Avengers numbers.

There's also that Godzilla's marketing was magnificent and X-Men:DOFP's was erm....a teensy bit lacking.

I can't help but feel Guardians should have been brought to audiences sooner. It's so close to new Star Wars and that new GotG trailer basically IS Star Wars (though it looks awesome!)

GotG will definitely be a hit. That was one hell of a trailer.

I think all the Star Wars hype is working in GotG's favour. People are currently really starting to anticipate SW7, and this may just be the movie that will trench their thirst a bit until it's 2015.

New Star Wars is over a year and a half away.

A year and a half is really not that long at all. At least i don't think so.

X-Men is projected to do a +100m opening. Curious to see wether Godzilla will be able to hold.

And I'm so hoping that the Adam Sandler movie will bomb. But hey, stupid people also go to the movies..

My bet is 112m for the 4-day weekend. 92m for the 3-day weekend. I'm thinking 22m for Blended. While Barrymore is in it, Sandler and the premise pretty much suck.

I'm totally surprised by the great reviews for the new X-Men. I wasn't going to see this at the cinema, but i'm almost tempted now (although i really don't have the time).

you are not alone. was getting abit tired of the superhero genre (thanks Marvel) and I went thinking itd be ok as Singers back but wasn't prepared for how good and was blown away (cant remember last time that happened...maybe Batman Begins - another 4 star movie that should've been 5/5 like DOFP) IMO not just the best XM movie (yes even X2) and one of the best superhero/comic movies, but a great SF/timetravel movie in its own right (like BTTF & T1/2)

what might happen is word of mouth is going to get out about how awesome DOFP is and people who wouldn't normally bother will go, & fans will go again so maybe there wont be much drop off 2nd wkend (or even 3rd) esp as there isn't anything of much interest out for average movie goer until July 27th with Transformers (Godzilla is done, next wkend = Maleficent/Million Ways to Die, wkend after = Edge of Tomorrow, wkend after = 22 Jump, Dragon2)
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/schedule/

so if DOFP does 100m this wkend (3 day total), next wkend might be 60m, wkend after about 30m...

The good thing DOFP has going for him is that next week won't be much direct competition. AMWTDITW will target young people as well, but it's a western-comedy against an action movie with good word of mouth including Jennifer Lawrence with Marvels name in front of it. Maleficent will go for the families, and probably succeed with them.

DOFP now on 500m (162m US) - so should go up to 600+

Godzilla currently 340m (145m US) but still got China/Japan to go,,,(Pacific Rim did 111m & 14m there so maybe Godzilla do similar so maybe get to 500m total

TASM2 looks to be pretty much done at 690m (192m US)...should scrape to 700 which would still make it the lowest grossing SM

Maleficent opened with impressive 70m (100m overseas)

as predicted AMWTDITW bombed 17m (10m overseas)

EOT opening?

going with 50m (Oblivion did 37m but wasn't all that anticipated, but EOT has some very good reviews/word of mouth...plus I believe Oblivion has been somewhat 'rediscovered' as a pretty good movie so could help in that respect with it being quite recent)

Whatever Edge of Tomorrow opens with, it won't be nearly as much as it deserves.

Edge of Tomorrow lacks the anticipation. That's its main problem. People aren't glamoring for another Tom Cruise sci-fi action flick, after Oblivion last year. WB may consider themselves lucky if it reaches the OW of Oblivion or Pacific Rim. Haven't seen the movie so I can't state anything about the quality or it's deservingness.

I'm betting 50m+ for TFIOS. Which will make this the sixth weekend in a row with a 49m+ opener. A trend, which HTTYD2 and 22JS will most likely continue next week.

Shame, it deserves higher. Hopefully positive word of mouth will carry it.
