I'm looking for sources that explain why Debt of Honor was not chosen as the next Jack Ryan movie. Do you know any?

They decided to reboot the character and do one that was an original story and not an adaptation.

Plus- Hollywood needs an origin story......

I know they decided on that, I am wondering why though? Did the producer explain?

Origin story. New story. They think they'll get more money re-introducing the character rather than a straight adaptation as they have already done those. They did the same thing with Alex Cross

Actually, the adaptations made quite a lot of money. Do you have any sources?

May I ask, why it is important to you to have sources? Why do you want to know this information?

Generally a source is important to establish accuracy.

That's what a source is - I think the quastion is why the question is so demanding of accuracy, when there likely is no absolute response

Well people could just make things up otherwise...

And this is a film discussion board, not a peer-reviewed academic resource

Even a link to the producer making a statement would only be referred to as 'he said' rather than 'it is'. Accuracy and Hollywood rarely go hand in hand

If reaching for the reasonable, an origin story sounds very credible. Introducing a new actor, rebooting for a new audience who've likely not seen the old films but have, poor sods, seen Star Trek.

Well, without a source, that sounds like twaddle. No one had read the books when October made $200M, either.

Exactly, they appear to be rebooting the character for a younger audience who wouldn't have read the book. Plus, there is a good chance that they just wanted to keep the rights to the character like Sony or Fox with their Marvel acquisitions.

Well, that's Hollywood these days, sadly.

Have you read Debt of Honour?

The ending is a little too close to a fairly recent major disaster for it to make much of a Hollywood thriller.
