The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug super-issue with free talking dragon (and leash)!
Obviously, a Burgundy cover would have been great, but we've gotten our share of Anchorman 2 stuff already.

The month after we'll get DOFP and some Oscars stuff, the January issue will have Captain American 2 on it and I can't predict much more after that.

Hum... of course it's gonna be The Hobbit 2! Biggest movie of December.

After that it's quite difficult to predict.

Jan:
The Wolf of Wall Street... or more likely a 1st cover for DOFP

Feb:
Robocop (or could it be Pompeii?)... or another big preview

March:
an "epic" issue with Pompeii & 300: Rise of an Empire & Noah could be very nice... or Need For Speed?

Apr:
Amazing Spider Man 2 (already got a cover but who knows?)
Captain America 2

May:
X Men: Days of Future Past

June:
Transformers 4 (or Edge of Tomorrow?)

July:
Fast & Furious 7

Aug:
Guardians of the Galaxy

Sept:
Hobbit already?

Oct:
Interstellar

Nov:
The Hunger Games 3

Dec:
The Hobbit 3

I think Interstellar will have to get 2 covers, and don't forget about Tomorrowland- my #1 most anticipated of next year.

But Tomorrowland isn't a sequel, isn't a superhero movie, isn't directed by Tarantino/Nolan/Abrams... I doubt it's going to get a cover, unless the hype grows incredibly. Remember this year big movies like Oblivion, The Lone Ranger or Elysium didn't even get a cover... And December is definitely the Hobbit's month :/

Final predictions for the issue

Cover: The Hobbit- The Desolation of Smaug
Features: Saving Mr Banks, Frozen, Kill Your Darlings, Oldboy, something small on Anchorman?
Reviews: Thor?? Ender's Game??

Surprisingly enough, the article for the photo premieres does seem to imply it will be X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Makes sense. But pushing The Hobbit to the January issue seems a bit odd...

It's not just odd, it's impossible. That would mean The Hobbit issue would come out 2 weeks before the film, and would be on shelves until after Christmas. That would never happen, so either (a) Days of Future Past isn't on the cover, but does have a big feature, (b) it's a shared cover (very unlikely) or (c) they've said all they can about Smaug in the Elves issue- which I find hard to believe.
Also, I was shocked to find myself disappointed- sad even, to realise there might not be another cool Hobbit cover this year. I never thought i'd say that!

The question is: what's going to attract more buyers: a Hobbit cover or a X-Men cover?

Well done Empire on a striking series of covers, especially that Bilbo one. The subscribers one seems a bit tame in comparison...
