come on. it looked like a channel 5 movie. I'm surprised Lyndsey Wagner doesn't show up playing the Queen or something and Danielle Stelle on script duties

Well, it was a surprise in that a month ago Watts was one of the favourites for Best Actress Oscar.

I hope it's you can laugh at it bad, as opposed to being boring and dull bad, because I think I'll quite enjoy it if it's the former. Wonder if Watts will turn up to the Razzies?

they say the car driver was 'as drunk as a pig'

look at the hotel CCTV

he walks out as straight and sober as a judge

and now that i mention cctv

why were the cameras in the tunnel turned off that night ?

if there was no foul play, and she died in just another car crash

why was the evidence deleted ?

As a recovering alcoholic, I can assure you it is quite possible to drink heavily and appear not to be drunk, if your system is suitably used to drinking heavily.

Isn't this a review of a film? Surely attacking the film for being bad is the entire purpose of this if you feel it is bad otherwise it is off to the conspiracy websites?

I was shocked when seeing the star rating, but as Errigo's reviews aren't worth the paper they're written on, I'll wait and judge for myself.

He'd have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for those pesky mid-market tabloids...

Not too surprised at the review - I think it's been panned pretty heavily generally hasn't it? I'm sure I've caught bits of a terrible TV movie that was probably sufficient enough for the subject matter.

Personally I think the aliens from Area 51 rubbed her out.

Hey, if I sell that idea to Daily Express do you think they'll give me money?

I'm really starting to think that we were all on drugs when we saw Downfall and called it something of a great film.

It is, though. Makes me wonder what happened to Hirschbiegel.

Could we leave this thread for the review of the film, please? Crackpot conspiracy theories can go in, god 'elp them, News and Hot Topics. Or sent to the Express news desk. Ta

Five Minutes of Heaven is better than Downfall, so he's still capable of great films. If Diana's as bad as the reviews claim then it's going to be the material. Or a conspiracy between the Queen and the reverse vampires.

He's equally capable of this presumed level of dreadfulness - The Invasion is pretty appalling.

Do you think people here will go see this?

I might I suppose, but I'd need confirmation it's The Room/Plan 9 From Outer Space style enjoyably bad as opposed to just dull & boring.

Naveen Andrews deserves far better than the sentimental tosh he's required to spout in this sordid mess of a film. I'd say it was a car-crash of a movie but, well, you know...
Quite what the late Diana's family make of the sickly billboard posters everywhere, God only knows.
The subject of the unfortunate Diana's untimely death was much better - and respectfully handled - in Stephen Frears' The Queen. Everyone involved in THIS tripe should be ashamed of themselves. Giving it one star (but only because I have to).

I saw it last night and thought it was okay not brilliant it could have been better but if your interested in her life there were some interesting moments like her going to Ronnie Scott's disguised in a black long haired wig that I didn't know. Naomi Watts sounded like her and had some of her mannerisms but didn't really look that much like her. She's a great actress but this isn't one of her best performances it's just ok. The film is corny and unintentionally funny in parts during some of the romantic moments but it's watchable and doesn't deserve the critical mauling it's had. The 90's TV movie of Charles and Diana's marriage was a lot worse than this and was so bad it was good. I feel sorry for Naomi Watts she probably thought she was making a sweet romantic film of Princess Diana's love life after her Royal marriage broke down that could get her an Oscar and instead she's been ridiculed for it and has had some awkward interviews to do.

I kind of think though that once she was divorced without Asmet Khans approval it is intrusive of them to make a film about his relationship with her. When she was Royalty that was history but afterwards really the only person involved with telling that love story should have been Ashmet Khan and he doesn't agree with what he has seen of this films depiction of their affair (he doesn't want to see the full film). It doesn't paint the couple in a bad light or is slanderous though. 3/5

I wouldn't feel too sorry for her, sir. This film won't damage her career and she'll have more money than you and I will ever see in our lifetime.

And as for awkward interviews, I don't know about the others but she made her sit down with Mayo awkward.

Whoever greenlit this could have had a massive hit on their hands if they'd just adapted the classic Viz photo story 'Frankenstein Must Di!' instead.

I heard that interview on YouTube the other day she was unnecessarily defensive but I took that to be her getting upset with all the criticisms of the film. She does seem
annoyed by all the critical comments. She should have expected some no matter how good it could have been.

Is this film not doing very well financially? I was going to see it today, to satisfy my curiosity and see for myself if it really is the film everyone's saying it is, but after having a week of several showings a day I discovered that I've already missed today's two showings (both in the dead, mid afternoon slot) at my local cinema!

Obviously when a film gets such a universally negative reception you'd expect it to do badly, but I assumed there'd be enough notoriety over a film about "The People's Princess" that it would at least pull people in "to have a look" so to speak.

Tomorrow afternoon it is then

Well, that was whelming. It was just so unbelievable throughout, at no point was I ever convinced about anything. Naomi Watts doesn't look like Diana, she doesn't act like Diana and she doesn't sound like Diana. The only moment she looks remotely like her were the scenes of her doing that famous BBC interview, which still came across as fake as the wig we're expected to believe convinced Dr. Khan she wasn't who she said she was, standing inches away from his face.
If the point was to show her being a very different person in that interview than she is in reality, then the film should have dwelled on that somewhat, because instead it simply appears that the powers in charge decided to copy Diana's mannerisms for one scene, and not bother the rest of the time.

Aside from the odd car here and there, a tape found on the ground, and a CRT telly the film doesn't even look like it's set in the mid nineties. Go and watch clips of Eastenders or Corry, Top of the Pops, or films like Four Weddings and tell me the nineties didn't look distinctive.

Some of the events in this film occurred nearly twenty years ago, but it could have been set this Summer.

It's a solid 2 stars from me, if only because it doesn't deserve the distinction that a solitary star would bring it.
