she is a fine actress but i can't remember a movie with her (as an adult) that didn't bomb or at least disappointed.

Never Let Me Go, Hanna, The Way Back, Byzantium... Just cos nobody saw them doesn't mean they aren't good.

Think you mean Atonement rather than Never Let Me Go, which was a big success.

Her accent flips worryingly from American to Irish in this. Which is she meant to be?

She's playing an American teenager from Manhattan - though she fails to put on even a subtle NYer accent (I guess it depends on where the character grew up and all, but still ... ). But I agree, her accent was a bit uneven, dropping it here and there - nothing too much, though.

Bloody hell - NLMG was Carey Mulligan! I absolutely had it in my head that it was Ronan. How weird. Must be the Knightley / Atonement connection, as you say.

Right. Well, unless both her parents are meant to be Irish in the film, her accent's way off the mark.

Once the movie comes out, for some reason I feel her fans will say it's a "perfect" American accent to even saying "I heard the NYer accent! It was just a subtle one. You must be deaf!" I must be. Fanboys.
