Midnight Run
Not only the best mismatched couple" action film of the 80's but of all time.
People that say DeNiro cant do comedy NEED to watch this!

And while we are on the subject of mismatched couples/buddies, Planes, Trains and Automobiles.
My favourite Steve Martin (And his own apparently) film with the much missed John Candy.
Superb stuff

All of these film recommendations are great - Planes Trains, and Automobiles is an especially good film; I remember seeing that in the theatre back in the late '80's.

Two other great '80's cult flicks that I'd recommend:

Repo Man (1984): Great punk rock/sci-fi/mystery film.  Very underrated these days.

Suburbia (1984):  Another great punk rock-inspired film.
