I have been wondering if anyone has seen any films that are considered a "must see" by most people, where they turn out to be complete crap and bore you to death.

I am not afraid to say this but for me it would have to be Casino (1995).

I only watched this film because it is considered a "must see", like most of Scorsese's other films and I spent nearly three hours bored out of my mind with this film. I could not stand the constant dialogue from the narrators (De Niro and Pesci), where it's more talk and less action going on that only happens infrequently.

I enjoyed Goodfellas a lot more and even though that has the narrator (Liotta) talking in quite a few scenes, I did not mind it because there was a good balance of everything such as the action and edge of your seat moments. Even Taxi Driver had scenes of dialogue from the narrator (De Niro), which is probably common in a Scorsese film but Taxi Driver had a great balance of everything too. However, Casino was just more talk and did not have the same balance that Goodfellas or Taxi Driver did. The worst part is that the movie was way too long, which I thought could have been shortened and I hate it even more when a movie is long but hardly entertaining.

Are there any films that people consider boring or crap? Even though most people consider them as a "must see."

Another version of an unpopular opinions thread then?

A sex tape of Matty and Tuttle's mum.

I thought it would be hot and I was getting ready to throttle it hard, but unfortunately Matty flopped harder than Heaven's Gate on the first day of release.

What did I do wrong? It's just a discussion regarding "must see" films that people disliked, as we all have our own tastes and cannot like everything.

I can't think of a "Must-See" film that I couldn't stand, but I guess the closest thing would be Mary Poppins. I don't hate it or anything, but it bugs me every time I watch it that there's a really cute, really enjoyable story about a father learning how to show affection for his children before they grow up and it's too late, but it gets cut off too often by animated shenanigans and musical numbers.

I know that's supposedly where the magic of the film lies, but the horse race and the chimney sweep "Step in Time" scenes bore me.

Mate, the problem is that this thread keeps popping up in various different guises. There was a whole thread recently about "overrated" films that got shit-canned because it was just an extension of the Unpopular Opinions thread. And this is no different.

adam, you did nothing wrong, it's just that there are a huge multitude of threads on this forum and there will always be some duplicating of other peoples questions. Don't worry about it, I've done it plenty of times. Just let yourself be re-directed and go with it.

And, before this thread gets closed down, I'll say '2001 - A Space Oddysey'...

I never watched 2001: A Space Odyssey but I was tempted to watch it, as I have seen two of Kubrick's films and found them really entertaining.

I don't think it's a terrible film, but it was the first one that sprung to mind when I read the thread title.

It looks beautiful but i found it style over substance with more focus on the look of the piece than the value the depth of the script. It was supremely dull is probably the way to sum it up. I can see why people enjoy it but it never clicked with me.

Actually, I only saw 2010 once, a LONG time ago, but I seem to remember quite liking it... must investigate that one...

I wouldn't go as far as to say 'shite', but I wasn't impressed by the first HOBBIT movie. It was OK, but getting three movies out of a 300-page book?

But it's all been said before. Let's see what PJ does with 'Attack Of The Desolation Of Smaung And The Clones'...

I would, the scene with Golum and Bilbo was great the rest of the film was like watching a HD version of Fraggle Rock.

rick_7's Sexual Adventures in Wonderland. I had to stop watching once rick_7 was asking the Queen of Cards for DVDA. The scenes with the rabbit were horrific enough.

Well as stated, this is pretty much a duplicate thread, so I'm locking it, but just wanted to say to the original poster not to be put off from posting/starting new threads again, just do a quick search to see if there is already something similar first
