Originality.

How's that for a cruel and unusual concept?

What's not to say the reboot will be better than the original?

Ocean's 11, Dawn of the Dead, Man of Steel, The Thing etc

Well, he's a rabbit and doesn't speak English. BUT I do know that he is perplexed at your choice for Ben Stiller as Biff Tannen. You need someone at least mildly threatening. Plus a reboot of BTTF is neither needed, wanted nor possible.

But we've had this conversation before I believe. Must we do it again?

That would be impossible when it comes to Back to the Future. Absolutely a big fat 'no' to a reboot/remake/whatever of that.

And by The Thing, I hope you don't mean the prequel from a couple of years ago.....

Ok, maybe not ''better'' but do those names not sound like it could be at least an interesting/good film? A Wes Anderson BTTF?

I actually forgot that even existed.

No, don't care who directed it, the original BTTF is unique, it can't be touched. It wouldn't be as much as a culture shock going 30 years into the past from, say, 2015. It would have to be set in the 80s then travel back to the 50s in which case, it would be pointless remaking it at all.

And as The Clown That Dances noted, we have been here before.

Yes, I seem to remember that that when we discussed this originally vad3r eventually proposed that the new BTTF could involve going back to pre-historic times, or something.

No, actually threatening, not just comically. I've nothing against Stiller but he's about as menacing as Iggle Piggle.

I think someone should reboot Harry Potter, only he was dead under the stairs the whole time.

Biff is hardly meant to be Bane. He's a high school jock stereotype who bullies Marty. Stiller can play that well.

Stiller can't play young Biff, though. He is too short to be imposing as a 16 year old bully.

And he doesn't just bully McFly, he has a reputation of being a bit of a bruiser.

I actually said I'd rather they travel to the future and call the film ''Back to the Past''.

The future is infinitely more interesting to watch. The past is about recreation, the future about creation.
I want them to explore Earth in the future and have an adventure there whilst coming to terms with how much has changed. Wes Anderson is a visionary and giving him a shit load of $ to create his idea of the future is something I'd invest my time in watching.

Then it is not Back to the Future then, is it? He can just make that film and call it something else.

No, no. Firstly, he bullies George, not Marty. He needs to be physically menacing as well as comically dumb in order to justify George and Lorraine's fear of him (let's not forget he virtually assaults her in the car) as well as make it all the more satisfying when George decks him out. Plus Stiller is too old. You think he can pass as seventeen?

But this whole discussion is horseshit, and more fool me for taking the bait. Again.

That's where the comedy/character piece could come from. That Biff is shorter and physically just as imposing as Marty, yet it's the personality/choice that causes one to be the bully and the other the hero.
We all know who wins at the end.
Sends a nice message to the kids watching too.

With the state of the make-up/FX available these days and the films budget, yes. Plus, Stiller hardly ages if you remove the grey hairs.

Deal, it would take a better man than me to convince you on another BTTF.

You agree on The Matrix though, right?

Nobody on this planet could convince me that remaking BTTF would be a good idea.

Why do you think these films need remade/rebooted? Can't there be some films that are left alone?

Personally, I would like every film series I'm a fan of to be rebooted. It means I have more/another version of something I like. Another persons take on the story/characters.
If I end up not liking the new one, so be it. The original will still exist and my estimation of it will be even higher because it succeeded where others failed.

I'm sure the internet would be pissed if Michael Bay or Bret Ratner were rebooting Star Wars. Instead, it's trusted JJ Abrams, so all is well.
Heck, I'd want LotR to be rebooted or see a fourth film written by George R.R. Martin. More Middle Earth cannot be a bad thing.
