I'm assuming that Zod - as a fellow Kryptonian - will still be in possession of the same powers as Supes on Earth, and thereby more than a mild threat, red pants or not

Maybe Zod offers him the chance to become Human?

IGN reported on this today and said: “EW also saw footage from the film and reveals that in the movie little Kal-El is special even on his doomed home planet of Krypton, where his birth is said to cause alarm among some citizens.”

Sounds intriguing and suggests he's more powerful than Zod & co. Perhaps that's why we see them in armour etc. I'm looking forward to this one.

Bet you anything some Warner exec said "no kyrptonite! There was too much kryptonite in Superman Returns!" I'm sure they'll bring it into the Man Of Steel sequel (if there is one!)

The jury is still out on this on for me. I don't like the costume (why do all Zack Snyder superhero costumes look like they were left over from Batman & Robin!) I definitely want to see what they've done! I guess time will tell...

I think that they'll be playing on his humanity being a weakness rather than relying on the kryptonite fallback. Also I guess with Zod being around there is no reason to give Superman a handicap.

The costume I think is simply a case of it being a difficult one to get right cinematically. It works in the comic, but how do you make a silly looking costume not look silly? I think they've been helped by the recent comic change to which saw the red pants scrapped and they could now adopt that without a fanboy revolt. I personally like this costume more than any of the previous films - it looks more "alien" which is fitting and particularly stood out as looking great in the trailers - no doubt helped by the wise idea of using CG for the cape in some scenes.

From: San-Diago, which is German for 'Whales virgina'...
"he is definitely susceptible to the emotional frailties"...sounds like Dawson's Creek in a cape!! I shall watch this though as I am a media whore, a tremendous geek and to be honest the trailer gave me an erection....

It would be a poor movie watching two super humans not able to fight because they have both been exposed to Kryptonite. Like 'The Fast Shows' longest fight scene ever.

Cant wait for this. I remeber going to see Returns in the cinema and I loved it then and still do now. It does have its flaws, but I still get excited everytime I watch the scene where he rescues the aeroplane, and I did love Kevin Spacey as Lex Luther, but Supes needs a proper threat and I hope he gets it in this movie, and im sure Zach Snyder will bring his bit of magic to this movie.

Kryptonite will feature in Man Of Steel 2: The Krypton Factor where Superman enters a reality singing contest and must fight super baddie Simon Cowell and his enormous ego & trousers. Cowell produces Kryptonite and has Cheryl Cole place it around his neck.

I never bought into the whole Kryptonite-susceptibility, to be honest; if the stuff can flatten Superman it should obliterate regular humans, but no. Why? We're not from Krypton... not good enough. That's like saying Alpha Centauri - or Rigel Kent *wink* - couldn't burn us to a crisp because it's not our sun!

Supes' weakness should come from encountering foes stronger than he. Man Of Steel sounds promising.

What!?! No Kryptonite? No red pants? And no Krypto The Superdog either, I'll bet. And what's this about "feelings"? You'll be telling me there's girls in it next - YUCK! This film is a travesty of a mockery of a sham and a betrayal of THE LEGEND! Needless to say, I'm boycotting it. Etc...

It's a Zod story - why would you need Kryptonite? Zod wouldn't be able to use it against him as it would have the same effect on him as well. It makes sense. Other things can harm Supes such as other Kryptonians and Doomsday (who is sort of another Kryptonian) and Darkseid. They don't have Kryptonite in every Supes comic.
