three words to sum up this film... Girls, Boobs and Boredom. Quite frankly one of the most boring films I have witnessed in a while. What could have been a fun, dumb movie just doesn't know what it wants to be. It's stuck between a Girls Gone Wild video and an arty flick. So in turn just becomes a boring mess of a film.

Saw it earlier. Two of the people I saw it with described it as the worst film they had ever seen.

As for myself I enjoyed it. The bits that were good are absolutely brilliant, however the ending is to be questioned (those girls should be hitmen with that kind of accuracy!) and the first act was pretty poor as well.

but without any of the wit or talent. If you speeded up all of the slow motion I reckon this is a 30 minute short film.
Anyone else think James Franco wasn't given a script and was just left to 'Apatow' it. Spring breaaaaaak spring breaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaak forev...ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz

I hated Kids. It's rubbish. So I had zero expectations going in to this. And it was way better than I had hoped. Looks and sounds good - it's well made, which shouldn't be to its credit, but after some of the crap I've seen make to the big screen, it still is nice to see half-decent filmmaking - and it becomes enjoyably funny and ridiculously in the final act. As for the criticisms being levelled against it that it's vapid - what the f**k were you expecting?? it's about young, idiotic, twenty-somethings (or late teenagers) partying away, of course it was going to be! The scenes where the girls talk about how amazing "this place is" and how "they've found who they are" PAH, what do any of other really know at that age!?! it was hysterical. So don't expect to learn anything from anyone THAT stupid and THAT young.

A film I thoroughly enjoyed, although my viewing companion didn't! (I gave it 4, he gave it 1-2!)
It is immersive, exploitative, soft porn in places and if one were to analyse the film in any depth (although it must be questioned whether that is the intention with a film like this) we have searching questions about the direction of America's (and indeed, the developing world's) youth - also these girls are supposed to be intellectually above average being at uni, although Harvard it ain't! One questions whether their life chances would be better served swatting up for their finals instead of cavorting their tits around Florida.
The film also makes you question what one should aspire to in Life, the girls report home that they have gone to a spiritual place! Well if drunken debauchery is supposed to be a Nirvana then god help us all!
Faith, the more innocent and younger looking of the quartet (and, indeed, the only character it is possible to care about in any real way) sees the sinister route the girls are heading down (in scenes that don;'t exactly promote hip hop DJs as the bastions of morality) and gets the bus home, followed, belatedly, by a second, realising that being shot in th airm is not the Spring Break she envisioned. Morality goes completely out of the window for the other two as they don balaclavas and go shooting gangsters and their security. It may have helped to screw a bit of a moral compass onto the film by seeing them go down for life or better sent to the electric chair at the end but no, they cruise off into the Miami sunrise in an orange Ferrari. The score is excellent with the strains of Skrillex et al contemporarising this prortrayal of the moral atrophy of these girls (although stylising Skrillex into a slower, classical strain towards the end feels a little insane.) Some could say the film is about a mutually destructive relationship between a hip hop DJ and his young groupies, his intentions for them being clear with his per

I’m not going to do a full review but I went to see Springbreakers this weekend and I loved it. It’s more satirical than I expected and it’s visually stunning. James Franco steals the show when he joins the party but all four female leads were impressive, particularly Vanessa Hudgens. Smart, funny, touching and entertaining throughout – I recommend you go see this movie.

I didnt enjoy this as much as I thought I would but then again it was very different from what I was expecting. It had almost a Drive kind of feel to it (no where near as good), with moments of not much going on and very slow at times. It looked amazing and was a very cool film, I just think at times it tried a little bit too hard to be the the coolest film ever. There were scenes towards the end where they kept repeating lines which got a bit annoying but I think overall this was great film. Its worth seeing for Franco's amazing performance, the Britney Spears song and the first 30 seconds of the film which is just mental. Amen to a good Skrillex tune!

I think many people will see this film, as this arty, alternative movie and praise it for things like visuals, soundtrack etc etc (as you guys at Empire have done). I see where you're coming from and completely appreciate different peoples interpretations of what's in front of them. However, rather than get taken in by these "positives" I simply saw a lot of negatives (which you guys have mentioned) and realized this was a bad, bad movie!

The leads (girls) had no depth of character and no appeal what so ever and side characters were thrown in for no reason, did we really need "the twins"? After 10 mins we get the “Spring break” idea, we know it’s sun, sea, sex, booze and drugs….we don’t need a 50 minute montage of half naked people, beer funnels and lines of powder to get that and we don’t need reminding every 5 mins throughout the rest of the film!

All the repetition of dialogue and scenes didn’t work for me, it just got annoying. I thought Franco was good but even he got annoying through no fault of his own (see below). If they only used each shot once and never repeated a line of dialogue the film would be half as long…and still as simple and stupid!!

The script, if there was one, was probably written on a napkin and I swear Franco was just told to say “Spring Break” and “bitches” all the time and after that it was adlib city!

To me, it came across as the wet dream of a secluded woman who had a sheltered college experience and dreamed of “what could have been” if she had the chance to do it (and Spring Break) differently. Like the wild imagination of a girl who just wants to get away from classes and real people and live in this dream world where the party never stops and the “bad boy” is the hero that will love them and give them everything they want…..basically, a load of b****cks! I honestly thought at one point the film was goi

Even by Harmony Korine's standards, this is one of the most hate-inducing films I've ever seen.

To call it a satire on both teenagers and the American dream is giving Spring Breakers unmerited praise. It's a fantastical, nonsensical trip of excess & outrage for no justifiable reason other than for the sake of it; like watching one of those Snoop Dogg x-rated videos but better shot and 20 times the length. It's insistence on tedious repetition is not so much a stylistic choice, but a narrative arc.

Whilst it's not a film driven by words, it is however still a showcase for some truly appalling dialogue, clumsily delivered by a struggling quartet of lifeless performances completely at the mercy of Korine's lust for exploitation. The girls are supposed to embody the essence of being alive, yet Hudgens, Gomez, Jensen and Mrs. Korine are all equally dead between the eyes.

Some neat cinematography and affective grooves by Skrillex and Cliff Martinez should not hoodwink people from seeing Spring Breakers as anything other than a wretched piece of boring garbage. This is no art installation nor narrative film; just another vessel for Korine's insidious tastes which sensationalises everything and humanises nothing.

Well said...thought I had missed something when I read all the glowing reviews stating 'if you didn't like it you didn't get it' on my return from Cineworld. Absolutely abysmal.

It takes a lot to send me running to the exits, but this was probably the worst 'film' I've witnessed in my entire life... it's like a music video that lasts 7 hours (that's how long it felt anyway), basically a mainstream porno with next-to-nothing in the way of storyline...
I literally could not pick out one thing to value from this rubbish

It reminded me of those teen exploitation films from the 1950s, ones that start with written blurb warning about the dangers to society posted by that wicked weed marijuana, and how teenagers are going off the rails these days. The films seems deeply conservative.

I admit I was hoping for some Tarantino type stuff, and the foot fetish stuff gets a look in here. But the script seems deliberately vapid. As for soft porn, well, you can't really do that in the era where hard core is one click away. You can't put toothpaste back in the tube. Soft core holds no tease, no allure.

Maybe that's the point, to make hedonism seem banal. As for the ending, one imagines it might be a dream sequence, as some posit for the finale for Drive.

Bikini’s, guns, sex and drugs. This is provocative filmmaking that immerses the Disney princesses into the world of enfante terrible Harmony Korine.

In terms of Korine’s work Spring Breakers makes a huge leap forward establishing him as the most provocative director in the American mainstream. What is so striking about Spring Breakers is the absolute conviction with which it embraces the strangeness of its world, it is unapologetic. James Franco embodies this; his Alien is a part time rapper, drug dealer, gangsta with gold plated teeth. He proclaims “big booty that’s what life is all about, I love doing the wrong thing I’m as bad as there is this is the American dream.”

The story explores four girls so tired of seeing the same things every day. Their dream is Spring Break, a hedonistic fantasy of booze, bikinis and drugs. Korine’s voyeuristic camera combines the princess footage with real footage. His fixates on “tits and ass” to the hypnotic techno soundtrack. He cranks up the violence and sense of unease with the introduction of Alien. He bails the girls out of jail and proclaims “everyone can use a little bailing out once in a while. The girls leaving jail in their bikinis are fetishized.

But how far will they go to live the dream? Faith (Gomez) is the most conflicted of the four, the rest seem committed to breaking all the rules. Korine’s style never lets up Alien threatened with a bullet to the head puts his mouth to the loaded guns and simulates fellatio. He shouts “You’re my mother fucken soul mates. A short time later he plays Spears’ ballad “Everytime” on the piano overlooking the Florida Sea. What other director would immerse his audience in such perverse pleasures. The girls join their gold plated sugar daddy to go up against Archie (Gucci Mane) once Alien’s best friend now his main rival for the drug

This movie played like a flashback music video kinda thing rather than a movie, made up of scenes of them partying with very little dialogue. The only thing going for it was the hot girls in bikinis, which it seems the film maker relied on to get people to go see this piece of trash (that and empires awful review) You need someone who has eyes and ears to review for you, empire, as your rating system sucks!!

Loud, brash, tongue in cheek and beautifully shot.
It's not a happy movie, reminded me of the gangster flick Belly in places.
An exploration into the lewd, the crude and the ludicrous.

Anyone familiar with Harmony Korine's body of work knew what to expect here. Personally, I disagree with the people calling the film "boring" as that's kind of the last word I'd use. A movie this unconventional is far from boring. It's a very dark comedy underneath it all.

Most shocking of all is that while Spring Breakers takes some time to find its bearings, this may be the most confident and artistically-grounded film of Korine's career.
