Now that this part of Marvel's phase 2 seems to be building up momentum I thought it could do with it's own thread.

With James Gunn directing, the recent casting of Chris Pratt as Star Lord and Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer and the awesome new Star Wars-y concept art that's just made it's debut on the internet today, I think Guardians is making a very promising start!!

It has to be said that I was firmly in the "Jason Momoa for Drax" camp while that particular part was being cast, but Bautista seems like a solid choice (no pun intended). The remaining questions are of course - which other characters will be in it, who will play/voice them and what will the storyline be? I think they are almost givens that Rocky Racoon and Groot will be two of the other Guardians included in the movie (Adam Sandler was rumoured to be voicing Rocky Racoon recently, although I would file this under B for bullshit personally!) and that Thanos will be the villain, but what about the rest?

If the concept art of the Guardian's sitting around the table in a bar is anything to go by (link below) , I think the other characters will be......

...................................................................
- Gamora (top left of picture, next to Rocket Racoon): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamora
- Bug (Either the robot next to Gamora or the next guy along with the Biggles hat) : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bug_(comics)

If the green guy with the Biggles hat is Bug (which is would be where I would put my money) then I reckon the robot will be called Cosmo, who is written as a Space-Dog in the comics. Yes really!!

The other one (the bald guy with the beard) is a bit of a mystery to me, if indeed he is actually one of the Guardians. If he is could he possibly be Vance Astro maybe? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vance_Astro

They released this last year, so I'm guessing these are the main five....

Yes I remember this, from left to right it's Drax, Groot, Star Lord, Rocket Racoon and Gamora (I think). I do hope Bug will be in it too - he's a great character and I'm guessing he and Rocket Rascoon would provide the majority of the comedy relief.........because a giant tree man thing couldn't possibly be funny could he??

Not bad, but she'll probably need to hit the gym methinks. Trek and Marvel?... that's some fan-boy pressure.

A great bit of casting if it comes to fruition. She also just happens to be in my top 3 at least........

So Michael Rooker has been cast as Yondu. I have to admit he is not a character I am familiar with as he is not a "regular Guardian" in the comics to my knowledge, but I'm thinking he would be the guy I was unable to identify from the concept art I referenced above. It's a bit of leftfield casting for a Marvel flick IMO. I have to say I'm not a huge fan of Rooker (as he always seems to play the same sort of part) and am not sure he has the "star quality" for a big budget extravaganza like this, but he is unnoffensive at least.

I was looking forward to this when I first of it, but I have to say I`m not crazy about the cast. Hope it turns out well though.

Marvel have just launched a new Guardians Of The Galaxy series that features Iron Man as a new member of the team. I'm assuming they want new readers to start reading that book to prepare themselves for the movie (which is why they've got big name guest writers like Neil Gaiman writing issues with Brian Michael Bendis), so I'd be very surprised if Iron Man doesn't play a part in the movie at some point.

My only issue with this would be, it might be a bit of a Stark overload having him be part of three separate franchises. Of course, they could always keep him as a minor character/cameo in the first film.

John C Reilly is the latest leftfield casting rumour to be associated with Guardians of The Galaxy following on from the casting of another leftfield choice - Michael Rooker as Yondu. Apparently he is in talks to play a chacter called Rhomann Dey, who in the comics is a member of the Nova corps and is in himself a "super hero". However, apparently in the movie - he will be portrayed as a S.H.I.E.L.D liaison which is a bit odd if you ask me, but (with all due respect) is better suited to John C Reilly as an actor!

Apparently Hugh Laurie, Ken Wattanabe and Alan Rickman are also in talks to play as yet unnamed characters! Hmmmmm,....interesting stuff!!

So Benicio Del Toro has signed a multi-picture deal with Marvel which will see him initially play an as yet unnamed part In GOTG. It is said that he will pop up in future Marvel movies in a similar way Samuel L Jackson has in the Marvel Phase 1 films. My money is on him playing the big bad himself - Thanos! A seriously great bit of casting if true!
