The only thing that will work is if it suddenly made an absolutely huge amount of money on DVD and BluRay.

And DC to burst a blood vessel in 3... 2... 1...

well, if the page got a good amount of likes and we staged a massive dvd/blu-ray buying campaign, it could work. That's a big IF

This.

The first (Urban) film is great, so just keep enjoying that one.

the same will have been said about Tron, The Thing, and Blade Runner...

if Dredd becomes a cult hit on dvd/BR with film lovers, students etc raving about it in an underground Fight Cluby way then theres a chance it might get a sequel in a few years.

Urban is a fairly young guy - he could easily play Dredd again even in 10-15 years time

In the slight likelihood it does get a sequel I hope it is not 3D, those were the bits which really grated in the film.

They said The Thing and Blade Runner would never have sequels because it would be freaking dumb to do so. (And I bet dollar to doughnuts this Blade Runner 2 nonsense doesn't leave development hell).

Tron made money theatrically, and the sequel was greenlit based on the success of The Matrix films and 3D rather than the original.

It should be noted that when the likes of The Thing, Blade Runner and Fight Club became hits on home video, the home video industry was far more healthy than it is today.

Dredd needs to be a lot more than a "cult hit" to break even on Blu-ray. It needs to sell the same amount as The Avengers did. And just breaking even doesn't make a sequel appetizing for potential investors.

Let's not forget the Judge Dredd character hasn't failed just once, it's failed both as a medium sized budget film and a big budget film with a movie star in the lead.

Yep - not going to happen. It might work on TV - The Wire...IN THE FUTURE sounds like something up the street of Starz.

One word.

Serenity.

Or if you want a few words, Serenity as a movie or Firefly as a TV show.

Either way,all the browncoats in the world ain't gonna kickstart enough money to get that story rolling again. And there are a hell of a lot more browncoats than Dredd fans.

Don't get me wrong, I thought DREDD was a terrific movie, but just give it up, it ain't happening.

Well it depends on your point of view regarding The Thing, and Blade Runner is still being planned last I heard.

The film was only released about 6 months ago and despite being a box office failure, has quite the cult following already.Thats a terrific acheivement for Dredd and proves that its going to stand the test of time.

Id love to see a sequel and appreciate the efforts of those who want to get one greenlit.I dont see it happening but appreciate their efforts.

I thought Dredd was a decent little flick so,in some respects,I am slightly amazed by some for the clamor for a sequel.
I thought it ended on a rather unspectacular yet solid note.

Its because there is so much they could do with the concept.Any fan of the comics would love to see The Dark Judges or The Apocalypse War in a sequel.

I beg to differ.
Dredd, for me,will always truly work in the comics and y'know what I think that's great.

Anyway for certain characters and concepts to truly prevail in the FILM medium then you're gonna need a hell of alot more money than what the Original did and, which has been proved,I don't think Hollywood or anywhere else will take that risk.
Which I find refreshing and some way ironic because that in itself represents why 2000AD is such a great iconic-comic- brand that it doesn't intentionally or unintentionally fit in the crowd of other super-hero/fantasy comics clamoring for film rights.
And i'd be very, very surprised if anyone can replicate the true-ness of 2000AD on screen.

I'm surprised at all the clamour for a sequel. It was a decent enough film, but I can't see it having any longevity at all.
It wasn't that good.
Besides, The Raid, which it was based on, was so much better

The Thing (2011) is a prequel and I said 'as of right now' there is no sequel to Blade Runner. Which is true.

Both Dredd and The Raid were in production simultaneously. Any copycatting by either party would have been a distinct impossibility.

Dredd is a fantastic piece of genre sci-fi. Epic, yet tightly constructed. Character centric, yet ferociously narrative. Sensitive, yet unsentimental.

The fact that we're getting a fourth Michael Bay Transformers movie and yet we likely will never get to see a sequel to a genuinely well made piece of action-adventure science fiction cinema like Dredd is a tragedy about which we ought to be quite sincerely pissed off.

But don't blame the studio. Blame normal, everyday human beings who don't have half a taste bud to actually support films like this getting made more often. And blame a marketing campaign that didn't know how to sell what it had.

They would never, ever ever have the budget to do these. Would love it if they tried to adapt America for the big screen...

But aren't we getting back to whole non-3D showing thing?

Again, I thought DREDD was a terrific film, but I ain't doing 3D. Full stop. I fucking hate this awful gimmick that puts 30% or 40% on already expensive tickets just so I can get a headache and that annoying irritating feeling on the bridge of my nose from the 3D glasses. I really wanted to see DREDD, but if the cinemas and the studio refuse to give it to in the format I want then, quite frankly, they can fuck off, I'll save my money for the Blu-Ray, which is how I supported DREDD.

So yeah, I can blame it on the studio.

The 2D version of the film did go on limited release. But yes, I take your point about the glasses and the extra cost.

The 3D should have been dropped to increase ticket sales and decrease the budget, which is a shame since the only mainstream accolades it got were for that.

I think your passion is admirable, but I'm afraid you might as well repeatedly bash your head against a brick wall.

Personally, I wasn't terribly impressed after watching Dredd (it's a middling 3/5 film for me), but it's a shame that we won't see sequels because there was a lot of potential there, I think.

They need to drop the 3D or provide a 2D option if they make a sequel ... it's why I didn't see it at the cinema.

Not giving the option of 2D was a big mistake

I'd buy that for a dollar!

(As for a film sequel? Fugeddaboudit! Ain't gonna happen. Just be grateful they got Dredd right the second time round. At least we have that. But a TV show, however... Well, maybe some day. That Buffy movie stiffed, didn't it...?)
