I know this forum specifies that only pre-1975 films be discussed, but I was hoping that - for this thread - we could reduce that even further to pre-1960 films. You may have heard of the 30 Day Movie Challenge, if which you must choose a film over the course of 30 days which corresponds to a particular theme e.g. 'Favourite love story', 'Favourite musical' etc.

I completed mine and was embarrassed to admit, it weighed very disproportionately on films from the 1960s earlier. So, in an attempt to garner recommendations for older films, I'd like to see if other people on the Empire forum have suggestions? I made an attempt at this, but had to skip one or two of the columns. I'd be very interested to hear other people's versions of this list.

Day 1: Favourite film - The 39 Steps
Day 2: Least favourite film - The Eternal Jew (Have only seen clips of this despicable film)
Day 3: Favourite comedy - Duck Soup (okay, I've never seen it, I'll admit)
Day 4: Favourite drama - The Third Man
Day 5: Favourite action - North by Northwest
Day 6: Favourite horror - Freaks
Day 7: Favourite animated feature - Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Day 8: Favourite thriller - Kiss Me Deadly
Day 9: Favourite musical - The Wizard of Oz
Day 10: Favourite foreign film - Rashomon
Day 11: Favourite kid's movie -
Day 12: Favourite love story - Rear Window
Day 13: Favourite chick flick - Rebel Without A Cause (because James Dean was a heart-throb, it counts!)
Day 14: Favourite documentary - Night and Fog
Day 15: Favourite play adaptation - Twelve Angry Men
Day 16: Favourite book adaptation - The Grapes of Wrath
Day 17: Least favourite book adaptation -
Day 18: Film that is your guilty pleasure - Plan 9 from Outer Space
Day 19: Film that made you cry the hardest - It's a Wonderful Life
Day 20: Movie with your favourite actress - Dial M For Murder (Grace Kelly)
Day 21: Movie with your favourite actor - Tarantula (Clint Eastwood - cheating, I'll admit)
Day 22: Movie you wish you could live in - King Kong
Day 23: Movie that inspires you - City Lights
Day 24: Movie with your favourite soundtrack - Vertigo
Day 25: Movie with the most beautiful scenery - The Searchers
Day 26: Movie you're most embarrassed to say you like -
Day 27: Movie with your favourite villain - Night of the Hunter
Day 28: Movie with your favourite hero - Bad Day at Black Rock
Day 29: First movie you ever remember watching - Lady and the Tramp
Day 30: Last movie you watched - The Red Shoes

I haven't heard of the challenge but it seems a bit unfair for two fo the categories to force you to watch films you don't like! And for the challenge to be to rewatch films rather than discover the new.

Apart from querying the placing of Third Man the one where I think one of yours would be a candidate for me would be favourite hero - Bad Day at Black Rock is a grand choice (Actually two of yours would, but It's a Wonderful Life would be up for least favourite for me

).

THe one I'm most fascinated by, if I may ask? Film you wish you could live in?

You don't have to watch all 30 films, of course! You just have to link a trailer for them on Facebook, Twitter or the like! Care to take a shot at completing the list?

As for the 'Film I wish I could live in', who wouldn't want to live in a world of giant gorillas and dinosaurs?!
