Good fight scenes but spoilt by tediously long periods of downtime that struggled to be affecting at all...

You mean the bits that are generally called "the plot"?

I thought it was a great movie. Not quite as good as the holy trinity of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Hero and House Of Flying Daggers, but one of the better martial arts movies I've seen in recent years. And one thing all four films have in common is that it's not all about the fight scenes. The dramatic performances are also great, even if Reign Of Assassins is far more of a fantasy movie than the others.
